A case of alternating hemiplegia in 2-month-old children with nystagmus as the first symptom: A case report.
This case report delves into the rare neurological condition known as alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC), focusing on its clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, and treatment options. AHC typically presents in infants under the age of 18 months with intermittent episodes of hemiplegia, often triggered by stressors such as environmental changes, bathing, or emotional stress. Recognizing the clinical features of AHC is crucial for early identification and intervention. ⋯ This case underscores the importance of early recognition and prompt intervention in managing children with AHC. The varied clinical presentations of AHC necessitate vigilance for early differential diagnosis. Although AHC is currently incurable, appropriate treatment can mitigate the impact of complications and improve the long-term quality of life for affected children, facilitating better societal integration.

This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to explore the relationship between gut microbiota and the occurrence of cholelithiasis, as well as the impact of cholecystectomy on the gut microbiota. This study leverages data on exposures and outcomes from the GWAS database, employing the inverse variance weighting (IVW) method to obtain primary causal estimates. Heterogeneity is assessed using Cochran Q and Rücker Q tests through both IVW and MR-Egger methods. ⋯ All study results show no horizontal pleiotropy, and the MR-PRESSO validation results are consistent with the MR analysis findings. This study elucidates the relationship between gut microbiota and the occurrence of cholelithiasis, as well as the impact of cholecystectomy on the gut microbiota. These findings have clinical significance for diagnosing disease onset and understanding digestive function changes following gallbladder removal, providing theoretical support for further investigation into the molecular mechanisms underlying cholelithiasis.

This study aimed to explore whether maternal food and nutrition literacy (FNL) can mitigate negative effects of food insecurity on children's eating habits and assist food-insecure households in making better nutrition choices with limited resources available. A cross-sectional study was conducted on children aged 6 to 12 years and their mothers. FNL was assessed using a validated Food and Nutrition Literacy Assessment Tool, and household food security was evaluated with the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale. ⋯ Both groups indicated lower sweet consumption associated with higher FNL. Maternal FNL was inversely associated with lower dairy and nut intake in food-secure group and lower fruit and vegetable consumption in food-insecure participants. This study suggests that in conditions of food insecurity FNL may reduce the negative impact of food insecurity on children's nutrition choices and food habits.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma originating from extrahepatic bile duct is very rare, and only a few cases have been reported. Because of its scarcity of incidence, not much is known about the disease but for its aggressiveness and poor prognosis. ⋯ Given the rarity of LCNEC, it is essential to continue collecting and reporting additional case studies to build a more comprehensive understanding of the disease. Although the prognosis for LCNEC is generally poor, the use of a multidisciplinary approach and further research will be critical in developing more effective treatment strategies in the future.

Ferroptosis has been recognized as a critical factor in the development of atrial fibrillation (AF), but its precise mechanisms remain unclear. We downloaded the GSE115574 dataset from the gene expression omnibus database to analyze the expression levels of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) and identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and support vector machine-recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE) machine learning techniques were employed to identify key genes associated with AF. ⋯ This study underscores the involvement of FRGs in AF through machine learning and validation approaches. The observed immune cell infiltration suggests a potential link between immune response and AF. The predicted ceRNA network offers new insights into gene regulation, presenting potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for AF.
