Meta Analysis
Mortality rate of pulmonary infection in senile dementia patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Dementia is estimated that this kind of neurodegenerative disease directly affects 50 million patients worldwide. About 12% to 70% death of dementia disease can be attributed to pneumonia. We aimed to evaluate the pneumonia-related mortality of dementia patients and how the frequency of pneumonia-related death varies according to the data of death (autopsy or death certificate). ⋯ This meta-analysis shows that the pneumonia-related mortality of dementia patients is much higher than the expectation of clinicians. The results of the study greatly warned clinicians to pay close attention to pneumonia cases of senile dementia patients.

Observational Study
An observational study on the modulation of anxiety, depression, and adverse event incidence in painless colonoscopy patients through venous access nursing.
To investigate the clinical significance of venous access nursing in modulating anxiety, depression, and adverse event incidence among patients undergoing painless colonoscopy. Sixty patients who underwent painless colonoscopy in our hospital from September 2021 to September 2022 were selected as the control group (CG, receiving routine perioperative nursing). Sixty patients who underwent painless colonoscopy in our hospital from October 2022 to August 2023 were taken as the study group (SG, receiving venous access nursing modulation). ⋯ The colonoscopy insertion time was (7.18 ± 1.02) minutes in the SG and (8.69 ± 1.00) minutes in the CG, and the colonoscopy withdrawal time was (4.66 ± 1.66) minutes in the SG and (5.64 ± 1.06) minutes in the CG, which showed statistically significant differences between the 2 groups (P < .05). The total incidence of adverse events did not have statistical significance between the 2 groups (P > .05). Application of venous access nursing in patients undergoing painless colonoscopy may help alleviate adverse emotions and shorten colonoscopy insertion time and colonoscopy withdrawal time, thus warranting recognition for its safety and efficacy.

Poria cocos, also known as Jade Ling and Songbai taro, is a dry fungus core for Wolfiporia cocos, which is parasitic on the roots of pine trees. The ancients called it "medicine of four seasons" because of its extensive effect and ability to be combined with many medicines. Pachymic acid (PA) is one of the main biological compounds of Poria cocos. ⋯ Using PA with anticancer drugs, radiotherapy, and biomaterials could also improve the sensitivity of cancer cells and delay the progression of cancer. The purpose of this review was to summarize the anticancer mechanism of PA by referencing the published documents. A review of the collected data indicated that PA had the potential to be developed into an effective anticancer agent.

Observational Study
Construction and validation of a predictive model for preoperative lower extremity deep vein thrombosis risk in elderly hip fracture patients: An observational study.
The aim of this study was to identify independent risk factors for preoperative lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in elderly hip fracture patients and to construct a nomogram prediction model based on them. We collected clinical data from elderly hip fracture patients from Ya'an Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (2021-2023), and used univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to identify independent risk factors for preoperative DVT. In this way, a nomogram prediction model was established. ⋯ Of the 223 elderly hip fracture patients, 23 (10.31%) developed DVT of the lower extremities before surgery. A total of 6 variables were identified as independent risk factors for preoperative lower extremity DVT in elderly hip fracture patients by logistic regression analysis: age > 75 years (OR = 1.932; 95% CI: 1.230-3.941), diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.139; 95% CI: 1.149-4.342), and prolonged duration of disease (OR. 2.535; 95% CI: 1.378-4.844), surgical treatment (OR = 1.564; 95% CI: 1.389-3.278), D-dimer > 0.5 mg/L (OR = 3.365; 95% CI: 1.229-7.715) fibrinogen > 4 g/L (OR = 3.473; 95% CI: 1.702-7.078). The constructed nomogram model has high accuracy in predicting the risk of preoperative DVT in elderly hip fracture patients, providing an effective tool for clinicians to identify high-risk patients and implement early intervention.

Spinal cord injury patients frequently suffer from anxiety and depression, which can seriously affect their quality of life and recovery. Acupuncture, as a traditional Chinese therapy, has been used to treat anxiety and depression for more than 2000 years. The aim is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of anxiety and depression in spinal cord injury patients. ⋯ Acupuncture could be used as a complementary therapy to reduce anxiety and depression in spinal cord injury patients. Further original and high-quality research is needed to verify the conclusions of this study.
