Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of naproxen on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in healthy volunteers.
To study the effect of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen on the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in healthy volunteers. ⋯ The use of naproxen does not influence the activity of the HPA axis in healthy volunteers under basal circumstances or in response to physical stress.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyInhibition of flucloxacillin tubular renal secretion by piperacillin.
To explore the extent, time course, site(s), mechanism and possible clinical relevance of the pharmacokinetic (PK) interaction between piperacillin and flucloxacillin. ⋯ Piperacillin inhibits renal and nonrenal elimination of flucloxacillin. This interaction seems clinically significant, as total clearance was reduced by a factor of 1.5 for the lower and 2.1 for the higher doses. PK interactions, especially with piperacillin, are likely to occur also with other beta-lactam combinations and might be useful to improve the effectiveness of antibacterial treatment.

Randomized Controlled TrialLamotrigine does not prolong QTc in a thorough QT/QTc study in healthy subjects.
To characterize the effects of lamotrigine on QT interval in healthy subjects. ⋯ Therapeutic doses of lamotrigine (50-200 mg b.d.) were not associated with QT prolongation in healthy subjects.

Randomized Controlled TrialDose-effect study of domperidone as a galactagogue in preterm mothers with insufficient milk supply, and its transfer into milk.
To investigate the possibility of a dose-response relationship for the use of domperidone in treating insufficient milk supply in mothers of preterm infants, and to quantify the exposure of the breastfed infant to domperidone. ⋯ In one-third of mothers, domperidone did not increase milk production. In the remainder, milk production increased at both domperidone doses, and there was a trend for a dose-response relationship. The amount of domperidone that transfers into milk was extremely low, and infant exposure via breastfeeding was not considered to be significant.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyAssessment of antitussive efficacy of dextromethorphan in smoking related cough: objective vs. subjective measures.
Dextromethorphan is widely used as a cough suppressant in over the counter medications. Its efficacy in altering cough reflex sensitivity has been shown in healthy volunteers. In contrast evidence for an effect on clinically important cough is poor. ⋯ The objective measure of cough sensitivity demonstrates dextromethorphan effectively diminishes the cough reflex sensitivity. However, subjective measures do not support this. Other studies support these findings, which may represent a profound sensitivity of the cough reflex to higher influences.
