Review Meta AnalysisCongestive heart failure risk in cancer patients treated with vascular endothelial growth factor tyrosine kinase inhibitors: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 36 clinical trials.
Congestive heart failure (CHF) associated with vascular endothelial growth factor tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (VEGFR-TKIs) has emerged as a relevant problem in clinical and scientific communities. We performed an up-to-date, comprehensive meta-analysis to determine the overall incidence and risk of CHF in cancer patients receiving VEGFR-TKIs. ⋯ The use of VEGFR-TKIs is associated with a significantly increased risk of developing congestive heart failure in cancer patients. Clinicians should be aware of this risk and provide close monitoring in patients receiving these therapies.

Review Meta AnalysisStatin use and risk of kidney cancer: a meta-analysis of observational studies and randomized trials.
Clinical studies have shown that statin use may modify the risk of kidney cancer. However, these studies yielded different results. To quantify the association between statin use and risk of kidney cancer, we performed a detailed meta-analysis of published studies regarding this subject. ⋯ The findings of this meta-analysis suggested that there was no association between statin use and risk of kidney cancer. More studies, especially randomized controlled trials and high quality cohort studies with larger sample size and well controlled confounding factors, are needed to confirm this association in the future.

Review Meta AnalysisIncidence and risk of hypertension with a novel multi-targeted kinase inhibitor axitinib in cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
To investigate the overall incidence and risk of hypertension in cancer patients who receive axitinib and compare the differences in incidences between axitinib and the other four approved vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). ⋯ While sharing a similar spectrum of target receptors with other VEGFR-TKIs, axitinib is associated with an unexpectedly high risk of developing hypertension. Close monitoring and appropriate management for hypertension are recommended during the treatment.

Review Meta AnalysisThe role of statin therapy in the prevention of atrial fibrillation: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common clinically significant cardiac arrhythmia, and AF is associated with relatively higher all-cause mortality in both men and women. However, there are limited treatment options for AF. Statins are hypothesized to have a benefit against arrhythmias in addition to well-established secondary prevention benefit for atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, yet the data are inconsistent ⋯ Statin therapy was significantly associated with a decreased risk of incidence or recurrence of AF. Heterogeneity was explained by differences in statin types, patient populations and surgery types. The benefit of statin therapy seemed more pronounced in secondary than in primary prevention.

Randomized Controlled Trial Meta Analysis Comparative StudyPain on injection with microemulsion propofol.
To evaluate the incidence and severity of injection pain caused by microemulsion propofol and lipid emulsion propofol in relation to plasma bradykinin generation and aqueous free propofol concentrations. ⋯ Higher aqueous free propofol concentrations of microemulsion propofol produce more frequent and severe pain. The plasma kallikrein-kinin system may not be involved, and the agents that reduce injection pain may not act by decreasing aqueous free propofol concentrations.
