ASCOD phenotyping of acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion treated by mechanical thrombectomy: insight from the PERSIST registry.
Determining the underlying etiology of acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion (VBAO) is crucial for selecting an appropriate treatment approach. The authors aimed to investigate the distribution of etiology and the association with functional outcomes in patients with acute VBAO who underwent endovascular treatment in which atherosclerosis, small-vessel disease, cardiac pathology, other causes, and dissection (ASCOD) phenotyping was used. ⋯ The most common etiology in patients with VBAO was atherosclerosis, followed by cardiac pathology and other. Compared to the A1 subgroup, the C1 subgroup showed better functional outcomes, whereas the O1 subgroup showed worse outcomes. Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference in the recurrence risk.

Early versus delayed cranioplasty after decompressive craniectomy in traumatic brain injury: a multicenter observational study within CENTER-TBI and Net-QuRe.
The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of early (≤ 90 days) and delayed (> 90 days) cranioplasty following decompressive craniectomy (DC) in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ Functional outcome and quality of life were similar between early and delayed cranioplasty in patients who had undergone DC for TBI. Neurosurgeons may consider performing cranioplasty during the index admission (early) to simplify the patient's chain of care and prevent readmission for cranioplasty but should be vigilant for an increased possibility of hydrocephalus. Optimal hippocampal targeting in responsive neurostimulation for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy.
The aim of this study was to identify features of responsive neurostimulation (RNS) lead configuration and contact placement associated with greater seizure reduction in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). ⋯ Dual unilateral hippocampal implantation increased RNS contact density in patients with unilateral MTLE, which contributed to improved outcomes, not by stimulating more of the hippocampus, but instead by being more likely to stimulate a latent subtarget in the anterior hippocampus. It remains to be explored whether a single electrode targeted selectively to this region would also result in improved outcomes.

Correlation of older age with better progression-free survival despite less aggressive resection in nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas.
Nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs) present at a wide range of ages; it is possible that variable outcomes are based on patient age at presentation. This study aimed to explore long-term outcomes of patients with NFPAs following endonasal transsphenoidal surgery (ETS), considering age stratification. ⋯ Older patients with NFPAs treated with ETS demonstrated a longer PFS. Of endocrinological outcomes studied, only male hypogonadism improvement was associated with younger patient age.

Creating a neuroanatomy education model with augmented reality and virtual reality simulations of white matter tracts.
The utilization of digital technologies has experienced a notable surge, particularly in cases where access to cadavers is constrained, within the context of practical neuroanatomy training. This study evaluates augmented reality (AR)- and virtual reality (VR)-based educational models for neuroanatomy education. ⋯ VR/AR-based educational models have the potential to improve education. VR/AR-based training systems can serve as an auxiliary tool in neuroanatomy training, offering a realistic alternative to traditional learning tools.
