Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyIsotope and patient age predict for PSA spikes after permanent prostate brachytherapy.
To evaluate prostate-specific antigen (PSA) spikes after permanent prostate brachytherapy in low-risk patients. ⋯ In low-risk prostate cancer, PSA spikes are most common in patients implanted with (125)I and/or <65 years of age. Differences in isotope-related spikes are most pronounced in hormone-naive patients.

Clinical TrialIntensity-modulated radiotherapy of head and neck cancer aiming to reduce dysphagia: early dose-effect relationships for the swallowing structures.
To present initial results of a clinical trial of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) aiming to spare the swallowing structures whose dysfunction after chemoradiation is a likely cause of dysphagia and aspiration, without compromising target doses. ⋯ These dose-volume-effect relationships provide initial IMRT optimization goals and motivate further efforts to reduce swallowing structures doses to reduce dysphagia and aspiration.

Risk factors of ototoxicity after cisplatin-based chemo-irradiation in patients with locally advanced head-and-neck cancer: a multivariate analysis.
Cisplatin chemo-irradiation is increasingly used in locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. The objective of this study is to determine risk factors of ototoxicity due to intra-arterial high-dose cisplatin chemoradiation. ⋯ Both cisplatin and radiation therapy were proven to induce sensorineural hearing loss, in this study with short-term follow-up. Of all patient and treatment variables studied, the patients pretreatment hearing level appeared to be the main predictive factor for hearing capability after high-dose intra-arterial cisplatin chemoradiation.

Influence of radiotherapy technique and dose on patterns of failure for mesothelioma patients after extrapleural pneumonectomy.
Extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) is an effective treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma. We compared the outcomes after moderate-dose hemithoracic radiotherapy (MDRT) and high-dose hemithoracic RT (HDRT) after EPP for malignant pleural mesothelioma. ⋯ High-dose hemithoracic RT appears to limit in-field LF compared with MDRT. However, DF remains a significant challenge, with one-half of our patients experiencing DF.

Risk of hemorrhage and obliteration rates of LINAC-based radiosurgery for cerebral arteriovenous malformations treated after prior partial embolization.
We investigate patient outcome, risk of hemorrhage, and factors affecting obliteration after LINAC-based radiosurgery (RS) for cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVM) treated after partial embolization. ⋯ The rate of obliteration after RS in AVM treated after prior partial embolization depends on size as well as Spetzler-Martin grade. The risk of intracranial hemorrhage is not increased after RS and depends on AVM score, size, and volume, as well as on applied single dose.
