Comparative StudyUse of Stereotactic Radiosurgery in Elderly and Very Elderly Patients With Brain Metastases to Limit Toxicity Associated With Whole Brain Radiation Therapy.
We evaluated the toxicity associated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT) in elderly and very elderly patients with brain metastases, as the role of SRS in geriatric patients who would traditionally receive WBRT is unclear. ⋯ WBRT was associated with increased toxicity compared with SRS in elderly and very elderly patients with brain metastases. SRS, rather than WBRT, should be prospectively evaluated in geriatric patients with the goal of minimizing treatment-related toxicity.

Adjuvant Chemoradiation After Surgical Resection in Elderly Patients With High-Risk Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck: A National Cancer Database Analysis.
To determine the patterns of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy use in elderly patients treated with definitive surgical resection for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck with extracapsular extension (ECE) or positive margins and determine whether an association with overall survival (OS) exists with adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT). ⋯ The use of adjuvant CRT is increasing among elderly patients with resected squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck exhibiting ECE or positive margins. Chemoradiotherapy was associated with an improvement in OS on multivariable analysis but not propensity-weighted analysis. Among fit elderly patients with ECE or positive margins after definitive surgical resection, concurrent chemotherapy can be carefully considered.

Are Future Radiation Oncologists Equipped With the Knowledge to Manage Elderly Patients With Cancer?
To assess radiation oncology (RO) trainee knowledge, attitudes, and clinical practice relating to geriatric oncology. ⋯ Radiation oncology trainees report inadequate training and experience in geriatric oncology and geriatric medicine. Radiation oncology trainees rarely use and poorly understand the rationale for GA tools and geriatrician input in clinical practice. Trainees strongly support improved education in geriatric oncology.

Multicenter StudyDirectly Improving the Quality of Radiation Treatment Through Peer Review: A Cross-sectional Analysis of Cancer Centers Across a Provincial Cancer Program.
To describe the outcomes of peer review across all 14 cancer centers in Ontario. ⋯ Peer review of treatment plans directly affects the quality of care by identifying important clinical and planning changes. Provincial strategies are underway to optimize its conduct in radiation oncology.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyASCENDE-RT: An Analysis of Health-Related Quality of Life for a Randomized Trial Comparing Low-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy Boost With Dose-Escalated External Beam Boost for High- and Intermediate-Risk Prostate Cancer.
To report the patient-reported health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) outcomes for a multicenter randomized trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of 2 different techniques for dose escalation. ⋯ At 6 years' follow up, there were no significant differences in mean scores in 9 of 11 scales compared with baseline in both arms. A clinically significant decline in mean scores was noted in both arms for role physical and sexual function scales. There was a statistically significant decline in physical function and urinary function scales in the LDR-PB arm compared with the DE-EBRT arm.
