Comparison of autologous blood, corticosteroid, and saline injection in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis: a prospective, randomized, controlled multicenter study.
We compared saline, corticosteroid, and autologous blood injections for lateral epicondylitis in a prospective, blinded, randomized, controlled trial. The null hypothesis was that patient-rated outcomes after autologous blood injection would not be superior to corticosteroid and saline injections. ⋯ In this prospective, randomized, controlled trial, autologous blood, corticosteroid, and saline injection provide no advantage over placebo saline injections in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis. Patients within each injection group demonstrated improved outcome scores over a 6-month period.

Evaluation of early postoperative pain and the effectiveness of perifracture site injections following volar plating for distal radius fractures.
Few studies have investigated the effectiveness of early postoperative pain control regimens after volar plating for distal radius fractures. This study evaluated postoperative levels of pain after volar plating of distal radius fractures under axillary nerve block in patients with and without injections of local anesthetics, narcotics, and epinephrine around the fracture site. ⋯ Therapeutic II.

Blinded, prospective, randomized clinical trial comparing volar, dorsal, and custom thermoplastic splinting in treatment of acute mallet finger.
To compare volar, dorsal, and custom splinting techniques in acute Doyle I mallet finger injuries. ⋯ No lag difference was demonstrated between custom thermoplastic, dorsal padded aluminum splint, and volar padded aluminum splinting for Doyle I acute mallet fingers. Clinical measurement overestimates true lag in mallet injuries. Increased lag occurs after discontinuation of splinting. Increased age and complications correlate with worse radiographic lag.

The incidence of intrinsic and extrinsic ligament injuries in scaphoid waist fractures.
To determine the incidence of associated intrinsic and extrinsic ligament injuries in patients with a nondisplaced or displaced scaphoid waist fracture. ⋯ In this study of acute scaphoid waist fractures, the overall incidence of associated ligament injuries was surprisingly high, at 34 of 41 wrists. Complete scapholunate ligament rupture was found in 10 of 41 wrists. This incidence is higher than previously reported and emphasizes the need for careful assessment of the intrinsic and extrinsic ligaments, particularly the scapholunate ligament, before deciding on treatment.
