Factors associated with lower quality of life among patients receiving palliative care.
This paper is a report of a study conducted to (1) assess the quality of life (QoL) and physical functioning status of patients diagnosed with advanced cancer and receiving palliative care; (2) determine if there was a statistically significant relationship between their physical functioning and QoL and (3) identify the demographic and disease-related variables related to their QoL. ⋯ More could be done in symptom and psychosocial management to improve patients' QoL, in particular for those who are younger, male or single, or who have lower physical functioning.

Job satisfaction and perceptions of quality of patient care, collaboration and teamwork in acute care hospitals.
This paper is a report of a study conducted to compare levels of job satisfaction and perceptions of the quality of patient care, collaboration and teamwork among healthcare professionals in four acute care hospitals and to determine the factors associated with job satisfaction for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals. ⋯ These findings provide important clues for improving interdisciplinary collaboration and ensuring quality patient care through good job satisfaction and teamwork among healthcare professionals in acute care hospitals.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Effect of performance feedback on tracheal suctioning knowledge and skills: randomized controlled trial.
This paper is a report of a study to determine whether individualized performance feedback improved nurses' and physiotherapists' knowledge and practice of tracheal suctioning. ⋯ Retention of knowledge and tracheal suctioning practice is improved when training is followed up by tailored feedback on performance. Further research would shed light on how long such improvements are sustained, and whether the improvements seen in a simulated setting can be generalized to clinical settings.

This paper is a report of a study exploring nurses' perceptions of the components of competence in the operating theatre. ⋯ These findings have identified that competence in respect to components of knowledge, teamwork and communication, and the ability to coordinate and manage are important and should be incorporated in operating theatre Competency Standards. Additionally, findings may assist in the development of an instrument to measure operating nurses' perceived competence.

HIV/AIDS knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions of rural nurses in South Africa.
This paper is a report of a study exploring HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions of nurses in the largely black and rural Limpopo Province of South Africa. ⋯ There is a need for accelerated HIV/AIDS training of rural nurses and for wider implementation of universal precautions and postexposure prophylaxis availability in public health facilities in southern Africa.
