The content of advocacy in procedural pain care - patients' and nurses' perspectives.
This paper is a report of an exploration of the content of nursing advocacy from the point of view of patients and nurses in the context of procedural pain care. ⋯ Advocacy is an integral part of the nursing care process. It is important that this key ethical aspect of professional nursing is discussed in nursing education and systematically applied in nursing practice through on-the-job training, feedback and collaboration.

This paper is a report of a study to explore link nurses' views and experiences regarding the development, barriers and facilitators to the implementation of the role in palliative care in the nursing home. ⋯ Whilst palliative care link nurses can improve care for residents in nursing homes, consideration must be given to overcome the types of barriers identified in order to enable the link nurse system to function effectively.

This paper is a report of a study to explore the experiences of older people who suffered a recent fall and identify possible factors that could contribute to service development. ⋯ Assisting people to reflect on their falls and to understand why they happened could help with preventing future falls, allay fear, boost confidence and aid rehabilitation relating to their activities of daily living.

This paper is a report of a study to examine nurses' perceptions of the importance of providing preoperative information to ambulatory surgical patients, and factors that might influence their provision of such teaching. ⋯ The results highlight the importance of reviewing current preoperative teaching methods and improving the effectiveness of such teaching to enhance the quality of care for ambulatory surgical patients.

Opportunities and barriers to successful learning transfer: impact of critical care skills training.
This paper is a report of a study to assess the impact on nursing practice of critical care skills training for ward-based nurses. ⋯ Course design should be a collaborative activity between education providers and commissioners to ensure the impact of training on practice. Relevance of material, time to practise skills and new learning, and organizational, rather than merely individual, support are essential for successful training interventions.
