Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudySmall-wave incision method for linear hypertrophic scar reconstruction: a parallel-group randomized controlled study.
The usual hypertrophic scar reconstruction methods such as Z- and W-plasties can leave noticeable scars and involve excessive normal skin excision, particularly in long linear hypertrophic scars longer than 10 cm. Thus, we invented and applied the small-wave incision method for patients with linear hypertrophic scars. ⋯ The small-wave method can meet both the functional and the cosmetic requirements of long linear hypertrophic scar reconstruction while reducing complication risks.

Randomized Controlled TrialMultimodality scar management program.
This trial was undertaken to assess the efficacy of a multimodality management regime used for the prevention of hypertrophic scars. It follows previous research and experience (A.D. Widgerow et al, Aesthetic Plast Surg, 24(3):227-234, 2000) with a similar program but with the addition of active agents with specific effects against prolonged inflammation and enhanced hydrative capacity. The modalities specifically targeted are tension on the scar, hydration of the scar, collagen maturation, and controlled inflammation. ⋯ Treated groups showed improvement outcomes in all variations of assessment. Patient and observer assessments correlated well, and morphologic appearances of the scars following the final assessment at 6 months showed statistically significant positive scar outcomes in the treatment groups. The multimodality approach to scar control showed significant benefits in the patient groups tested in this series.

Randomized Controlled TrialNovel topical BoNTA (CosmeTox, toxin type A) cream used to treat hyperfunctional wrinkles of the face, mouth, and neck.
This study aimed to compare the effect of the stabilized novel topical botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNTA) cream (CosmeTox) and a placebo cream on subjects, to compare clinician-reported outcomes, and to assess the safety and utility of the novel topical BoNTA cream for treating the entire upper face, chin, and neck areas. ⋯ Topical treatment with the stabilized BoNTA cream (CosmeTox) to the entire upper facial lines resulted in significantly improved facial features and age appearance, as measured by the subjects and clinicians. The BoNTA cream (CosmeTox) resulted in a significantly younger, more satisfying, relaxed appearance.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of pulsed electromagnetic fields on postoperative pain: a double-blind randomized pilot study in breast augmentation patients.
Postoperative pain may be experienced after breast augmentation surgery despite advances in surgical techniques which minimize trauma. The use of pharmacologic analgesics and narcotics may have undesirable side effects that can add to patient morbidity. This study reports the use of a portable and disposable noninvasive pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) device in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled pilot study. This study was undertaken to determine if PEMF could provide pain control after breast augmentation. ⋯ Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, adjunctive to standard of care, can provide pain control with a noninvasive modality and reduce morbidity due to pain medication after breast augmentation surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Controlled Clinical TrialMagnesium sulphate as an adjuvant to total intravenous anesthesia in septorhinoplasty: a randomized controlled study.
The current study was designed to assess the effect of magnesium sulphate infusion on hemodynamic parameters, neuromuscular blocking, propofol consumption, serum concentration of magnesium ions, and recovery from anesthesia during total intravenous anesthesia. ⋯ Magnesium sulphate can be used safely as an adjuvant to total intravenous anesthesia for day case surgeries, with the effect from potentialization of neuromuscular blockade taken into consideration.
