Review Case ReportsTapia's syndrome: an unexpected but real complication of rhinoplasty: case report and literature review.
Extracranial involvement of the recurrent laryngeal and hypoglossal nerves, also known as Tapia's syndrome, is a rare complication of airway management under general anesthesia. We report such a case after an otherwise uncomplicated rhinoplasty. ⋯ The risk factors, etiology, clinical course, recovery potential, and preventive measures are analyzed and discussed. Although Tapia's syndrome after rhinoplasty/septorhinoplasty appears to be rare, it should be considered by both the anesthetist and the plastic surgeon, and most importantly, special attention should be paid to preventive strategies.

ReviewAutologous fat grafting for primary breast augmentation: a systematic review.
As the technique of autologous fat grafting is being refined and perfected, its clinical applications are expanding. The use of autologous fat grafting for primary breast augmentation is controversial due to a lack of clarity regarding its safety and efficacy. ⋯ To help surgeons gain further insight, the authors conducted a systematic review of the literature, carefully comparing technique, clinical outcome, radiologic impact, and complications in all available data on this subject. Although an optimal method of autologous fat grafting for primary breast augmentation is yet to be standardized, further strong evidence-based studies are necessary to confirm the findings of this approach.

ReviewEvolution of silicone therapy and mechanism of action in scar management.
Silicone-based products are widely used in the management of hypertrophic scarring and keloids. This review discusses the range of products available and the clinical evidence of their efficacy in preventing excessive scarring and improving established scars. ⋯ Results from clinical trials and clinical experience suggest that silicone gel is equivalent in efficacy to traditional silicone gel sheeting but easier to use. The mechanism of action of silicone therapy has not been completely determined but is likely to involve occlusion and hydration of the stratum corneum with subsequent cytokine-mediated signaling from keratinocytes to dermal fibroblasts.
