Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialTime to pain freedom and onset of pain relief with rizatriptan 10 mg and prescription usual-care oral medications in the acute treatment of migraine headaches: a multicenter, prospective, open-label, two-attack, crossover study.
Patients and physicians consider rapid onset of pain relief and pain freedom among the most important attributes of migraine therapy. ⋯ In this selected population, treatment of a migraine attack with rizatriptan 10 mg was associated with a faster time to pain freedom and onset of pain relief compared with treatment with usual-care oral migraine medications. Patients reported greater satisfaction with and preference for rizatriptan.

Multicenter StudyLong-term management of chronic pain with transdermal buprenorphine: a multicenter, open-label, follow-up study in patients from three short-term clinical trials.
Transdermal buprenorphine is available in Europe for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain. It has been evaluated at doses of 35, 52.5, and 70 microg/h for the management of moderate to severe chronic cancer and noncancer pain in 3 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials, each of limited duration (approximately 14 days each). Long-term data are essential to determining the performance of an analgesic in the management of chronic pain. ⋯ Transdermal buprenorphine was generally well tolerated and effective for the long-term treatment of chronic cancer or noncancer pain in these patients who had previously received buprenorphine in 3 short-term clinical trials.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of armodafinil in the treatment of residual excessive sleepiness associated with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome: a 12-week, multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study in nCPAP-adherent adults.
Some patients with obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSA/HS) experience excessive sleepiness (ES) that might not resolve with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) treatment. ⋯ In this selected population of patients with OSA/HS and residual ES despite effective treatment with nCPAP, armodafinil QD used as an adjunct to nCPAP treatment was associated with improved wakefulness and overall clinical condition. Clinical benefit was shown at the first assessment and maintained for the 12-week duration of the study. Armodafinil was also associated with significantly reduced interference of ES with daily activities and global fatigue. Armodafinil was well tolerated, with no adverse effect on nighttime sleep or nCPAP use.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of efficacy and tolerability of amlodipine orotate versus amlodipine besylate in adult patients with mild to moderate hypertension: a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, 8-week follow-up, noninferiority trial.
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of amlodipine orotate with those of amlodipine besylate in Korean patients with mild to moderate hypertension. ⋯ The reduction in SiDBP after 8 weeks of amlodipine orotate treatment was noninferior to that of amlodipine besylate in these Korean patients with mild to moderate hypertension. The SiDBP response rate and the reduction in SISBP after 8 weeks of amlodipine orotate treatment were not significantly different from those of amlodipine besylate treatment. Both agents were wel tolerated.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA randomized, investigator-masked, 4-week study comparing timolol maleate 0.5%, brinzolamide 1%, and brimonidine tartrate 0.2% as adjunctive therapies to travoprost 0.004% in adults with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
The objective of this study was to assess the hypotensive efficacy of timolol maleate 0.5%, brinzolamide 1%, or brimonidine tartrate 0.2% ophthalmic solution, administered in conjunction with travoprost 0.004%, in patients with primary open-angle laucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT) whose intraocular pressure (IOP) did not meet the treatment target using travoprost 0.004% monotherapy. ⋯ Brinzolamide 1% and timolol maleate 0.5% treatment were both associated with a significantly greater reduction in IOP compared with brimonidine 0.2% when administered as a nonfixed adjuvant to travoprost 0.004% in the treatment of patients with OAG and OHT whose IOP was inadequately controlled with travoprost monotherapy. All treatments were well tolerated.
