Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA randomized, double-blind, multicenter comparison of gatifloxacin versus ciprofloxacin in the treatment of complicated urinary tract infection and pyelonephritis.
Gatifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with a broad spectrum of in vitro and in vivo activity against the gram-negative and gram-positive pathogens frequently implicated in urinary tract infections (UTIs). ⋯ Gatifloxacin is comparable to ciprofloxacin based on clinical efficacy and bacteriologic eradication rates for the treatment of complicated UTIs or pyelonephri- tis and is associated with a low incidence of clinically significant adverse events.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialTramadol/acetaminophen combination tablets for the treatment of osteoarthritis flare pain: a multicenter, outpatient, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, add-on study.
In a flare of osteoarthritis (OA) pain, increasing the dose of standard anti-inflammatory or routine analgesic drugs may not be practical because of an increased incidence of side effects. In patients achieving inadequate pain relief from traditional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or cyclooxygenase (COX)-2-selective inhibitors, it may be appropriate to add an analgesic agent with a different mechanism of action, thereby targeting multiple components of the pain pathway. ⋯ In this study, addition of tramadol/acetaminophen to NSAID or COX-2-selective inhibitor therapy was well tolerated and effective in the treatment of OA flare pain.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialA multicenter, randomized, double-blind comparison of the efficacy and safety of irbesartan and enalapril in adults with mild to moderate essential hypertension, as assessed by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring: the MAPAVEL Study (Monitorización Ambulatoria Presión Arterial APROVEL).
When blood pressure (BP)-lowering efficacy is assessed by measurements taken in a clinic setting, angiotensin II-receptor antagonists show similar efficacy to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and better tolerability. A search of MEDLINE to date, however, reveals no randomized, double-blind studies using ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) to compare the BP-lowering efficacy of irbesartan and enalapril in a large number of patients ( > 200) with essential hypertension. ⋯ As assessed by ABPM, irbesartan 150 to 300 mg/d was as effective in lowering BP and achieving BP control as enalapril 10 to 20 mg/d. Based on the number of treatment-related adverse events, irbesartan was better tolerated than enalapril.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialEfficacy and tolerability of subcutaneous almotriptan for the treatment of acute migraine: a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, dose-finding study.
The 5-hydroxytryptamine-receptor agonist almotriptan was found to be well tolerated and efficacious when administered orally in clinical trials of migraine treatment. ⋯ Almotriptan was well tolerated and significantly more effective than placebo in relieving moderate to severe migraine pain when administered as a single 6- or 10-mg subcutaneous dose.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialEfficacy and safety of ketoprofen lysine salt mouthwash versus benzydamine hydrochloride mouthwash in acute pharyngeal inflammation: a randomized, single-blind study.
Pharyngodynia, or sore throat, is one of the symptoms most frequently reported by patients to primary care physicians. ⋯ KLS mouthwash exerts a significantly longer first-application analgesic action with significantly greater local tolerability than BH in patients with pharyngeal pain of inflammatory and/or infectious origin.
