Intradural extramedullary spinal metastases of non-neurogenic origin: a distinct clinical entity or a subtype of leptomeningeal metastasis? A case-control study.
Leptomeningeal metastases from carcinoma are still poorly understood. ⋯ The significant difference in survival between IESM and LM suggests that they are 2 distinct evolutions of the metastatic disease. Distinguishing IESM also has therapeutic consequences because patients can benefit from a focal surgical treatment with functional improvement and extended survival.

Comparative cost-effectiveness analysis of sacral anterior root stimulation for rehabilitation of bladder dysfunction in spinal cord injured patients.
Urinary disorders account for 10% of deaths in patients with complete spinal cord injury. Sacral anterior root stimulation (SARS) may be a valuable therapeutic option to restore complete and voluntary micturition (CVM), but questions on its cost-effectiveness remain. ⋯ The effectiveness and cost of SARS are much higher than for medical treatment. Our results inform decision makers of the opportunity to reimburse SARS in this vulnerable population.

The SRS-Schwab adult spinal deformity classification: assessment and clinical correlations based on a prospective operative and nonoperative cohort.
The SRS-Schwab classification of adult spinal deformity (ASD) is a validated system that provides a common language for the complex pathology of ASD. Classification reliability has been reported; however, correlation with treatment has not been assessed. ⋯ The SRS-Schwab classification provides a validated language to describe and categorize ASD. This study demonstrates that the SRS-Schwab classification reflects severity of disease state based on multiple measures of HRQOL and significantly correlates with the important decision of whether to pursue operative or nonoperative treatment.

A multicenter study of stent-assisted coiling of cerebral aneurysms with a Y configuration.
Stent-assisted coiling with 2 stents in a Y configuration is a technique for coiling complex wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms. ⋯ In a large multicenter series of Y-stent coiling for bifurcation aneurysms, there were low complication rates and excellent clinical and angiographic outcomes.

Solitaire Flow Restoration thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke: retrospective multicenter analysis of early postmarket experience after FDA approval.
The promising results of the Solitaire Flow Restoration (FR) With the Intention for Thrombectomy (SWIFT) trial recently led to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the Solitaire FR stent retriever device for recanalization of cerebral vessels in patients with acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ Our study shows that a variety of other endovascular approaches are used in conjunction with Solitaire FR in actual practice in the United States. Early postmarket results suggest that Solitaire FR is an effective tool for endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
