Improved training in the socioeconomic aspects of medicine is a priority of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Neurological Surgeons. There is evidence that young neurosurgeons feel ill equipped in these areas and that additional education would improve patient care. ⋯ ABNS, American Board of Neurological SurgeonsACGME, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Postamputation pain is a debilitating condition that affects almost 60% of transfemoral amputees. Recent appreciation for the contribution of peripheral nerve derangement to the development of postamputation pain has resulted in focus on the role of nerve reconstruction in preventing pain after amputation. ⋯ CPN, common peroneal nervePAP, Postamputation painPLP, phantom limb painPS, phantom sensationsRLP, residual limb painTN, tibial nerve.

The subgenual cingulate gyrus (SCG) has been proposed as a target for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in neuropsychiatric disorders, mainly major depression. Despite promising clinical results, the mechanism of action of DBS in this region is poorly understood. Knowledge of the connections of the SCG can elucidate the network involved by DBS in this area and can help refine the targeting for DBS electrode placement. ⋯ DBS, deep brain stimulationSCG, subgenual cingulate gyrus.
