To explore the experiences of schoolchildren, school personnel and parents who participated in a school-based hand hygiene programme implemented by nurses in Malawi. ⋯ An evidence-based protocol based on study findings is beneficial for school nurses in formulating handwashing policies. It is important for developing countries to formulate the much-need policies for primary care practices.

The overarching aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a nurse-led pain management programme on pain intensity, side effects of treatment, shoulder range of motion and length of stay after thoracic surgery. ⋯ Nursing policymakers may need to give a serious consideration to the revision of policies related to the nursing education curriculum as well as the in-service training curriculum regarding pain management by nurses especially after surgery. Likewise, future research on other populations employing an improved methodology as well as utilizing up-to-date evidence by nurses across different hospitals may be necessary.

To investigate whether the CanMEDS-based International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists' Standards could adequately define the scope of practice and reliably be used to train and evaluate Swiss nurse anesthetists (NAs). ⋯ Adopted by low- and middle-income countries or countries where national standards are non-existent, this survey could introduce national and local policies at minimally acceptable standards of care for nurse anesthetists worldwide. The above standards have the potential to align education, outcomes and assessment of nurse anesthetists with the needs of national healthcare systems.
