Randomized Controlled TrialEnhancing the population impact of collaborative care interventions: mixed method development and implementation of stepped care targeting posttraumatic stress disorder and related comorbidities after acute trauma.
The objective of the study was to develop and implement a stepped collaborative care intervention targeting posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related comorbidities to enhance the population impact of early trauma-focused interventions. ⋯ Stepped care protocols targeting PTSD may enhance the population impact of early interventions developed for survivors of individual and mass trauma by extending the reach of collaborative care interventions to acute care medical settings and other nonspecialty posttraumatic contexts.

Randomized Controlled TrialRisk factors for depression and anxiety in survivors of acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Depression and anxiety are common morbidities of critical illness. We assessed risk factors of depression and anxiety in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) survivors at 1 and 2 years post-hospital discharge. ⋯ Medical variables that predicted depression or anxiety at 1 year no longer predicted depression and anxiety at 2 years. Medical variables appear to have a short-term effect on psychiatric outcomes. At 2 years lifestyle behaviors including history of smoking along with cognitive sequelae, depression and anxiety at 1 year predict depression and anxiety.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyFactors associated with the use of physical restraints for agitated patients in psychiatric emergency rooms.
To examine factors associated with physical restraint in psychiatric emergency rooms. ⋯ Restraint practices in Rio are predictable and based on a limited clinical assessment. Predictive factors for physical restraint may vary worldwide, but should be monitored and studied to assist training, and to establish programs to evaluate and refine this controversial practice.
