Lebanon, located on the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea, is a multi-confessional, multi-cultural country with a long history of medical education. One of the first medical schools in the Middle East was established in Beirut, Lebanon's capital, in 1868. ⋯ Lebanon's diversity translates into medical education, with the various schools adopting different systems.

Although medical students are expected to teach as soon as they begin residency, medical schools have just recently begun adding teacher training to their curricula. Student-run clinics (SRCs) may provide opportunities in clinical teaching before residency. ⋯ The practical experiences in clinical teaching that students have at SRCs can supplement classroom-based trainings. Medical schools might revisit their SRCs as places for exposure to clinical teaching.

Despite the emphasis placed on interdisciplinary education and interprofessional collaboration between physicians and pharmacologists, no psychometrically sound instrument is available to measure attitudes toward collaborative relationships. ⋯ Findings provide support for the validity and reliability of the instrument for medical students. The instrument has the potential to be used for the evaluation of interdisciplinary education in medical and pharmacy schools, and for the evaluation of patient outcomes resulting from collaborative physician-pharmacist relationships.

At times, preceptors struggle with aspects of resident education. Many are looking for more support and faculty development in this area. ⋯ Results are promising. Next steps involve developing a clear strategy for adoption.

In the USA, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, Educational Innovations Project is a partner in reshaping residency training to meet increasingly complex systems of health care delivery. ⋯ Using milestones, our program has enhanced an educational model into explicit, end of training goals. Milestone implementation has yielded positive results toward competency-based training and others may adapt our strategies in a similar effort.
