ReviewA systematic review of air pollution and incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
Studies have linked air pollution with the incidence of acute coronary artery events and cardiovascular mortality but the association with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is less clear. ⋯ Larger studies have suggested an increased risk of OHCA with air pollution exposure from PM(2.5) and ozone.

ReviewHurdles to the global antipolio campaign in Pakistan: an outline of the current status and future prospects to achieve a polio free world.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative to eradicate polio completely by the year 2000 has been successful, except for three endemic and some non-endemic countries. Pakistan, one of the three endemic polio reservoirs, is posing a serious threat to the success of the initiative. Currently, the expanded programme on immunisation has been geared to win the race over polio virus in Pakistan. ⋯ Analysis suggested that there is some literature available on the challenges to polio elimination, yet there is not a single publication up to date that considers all the possible hurdles in a single manuscript. This paper sorts out the breaches that hamper the goal of eliminating polio from Pakistan. We have evaluated all the possible barriers and explained them with a perspective that will help develop area specific strategies against polio virus and thus eradicate polio virus from the world.

ReviewThe policies-inequality feedback and health: the case of globalisation.
Major research contributions aimed at explaining the association between economic inequality and health have concentrated on the plausibility of the material deprivation and psychosocial factors pathways. However, little work has analysed the reciprocal associations between public policies and inequality and their effect on health. ⋯ Public policies and economic inequality are inextricably interrelated and can affect health through multiple, indirect, reciprocal pathways.

Review Comparative StudyElective surgery for aortic abdominal aneurysm: comparison of English outcomes with those elsewhere.
The aim of this study was to quantify mortality after elective repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in England, and to compare English case fatality rates (CFRs) with those reported in the literature. ⋯ The CFR after elective surgical repair in England within 30 days of operation (6.8%) was higher than expected from the literature. Differences between England and other countries in quality of care is one possible explanation for the findings, but other explanations are possible and are discussed.
