Case Reports
Endovascular treatment of subclavian pseudoaneurysm causing delayed brachial plexus paralysis.
Pseudoaneurysms of the subclavian artery are rarities. Due to their close relationship to the brachial plexus in the shoulder girdle, delayed lesions of the brachial plexus are possible. We report a case of a subclavian pseudoaneurysm following fracture of the clavicle, and the endovascular treatment using a balloon-expandable stent-graft.

Cold injury is an objective danger in mountain climbing as well as in many outdoor sports. With increasing number of people practising so-called extreme tourisms physicians can be confronted with frostbite. ⋯ At day 12, when the group reached the top of the Parchamo (Nepal, 6273 m), she developed frostbite at all toes leading to amputation finally. Risk factors, prognosis and options for initial treatment are discussed.

Thrombophlebitis associated with intravenous injection anaesthetics: influence of arm positioning.
Thrombophlebitis (TP) is a frequent complication of the intravenous application of injection anaesthetics. We investigated the influence of different arm positions on the incidence of such a complication in patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy. ⋯ An elevated position of the arm used for anaesthesia during shoulder arthroscopy is suggested in order to prevent TP.

One of the important unfavorable events that occur during the course of the cardiac hydatid cyst is rupture of the cyst and embolism of the germinative membrane. Peripheral arterial embolism of this germinative membrane is uncommon but is a potential risk due to the nature of the disease. ⋯ Following the embolectomy and reconstruction of the circulation in the involved extremity, ruptured cardiac hydatid cyst should be diagnosed immediately and excision of the cardiac cyst should be performed as quickly as possible. In this case report, we present two patients who had lower extremity embolism originating from the ruptured cardiac hydatid cyst and were operated on for cardiac cyst excision.

The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of abdominal and incisional hernias in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) versus patients with aortoiliac occlusive disease (AOD). ⋯ We conclude that there seems to be an increased incidence of abdominal wall hernias as well as postoperative incisional hernias in patients undergoing aortic surgery for aneurysm disease compared with aortoiliac occlusive disease.
