Randomized Controlled TrialPreterm birth rate after bivalent HPV vaccination: Registry-based follow-up of a randomized clinical trial.
A registry-based follow-up of pregnancy data until the end of 2014 was conducted based on a community-randomized trial to assess human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination strategies and a reference cohort from the same community with no intervention. Our objective was to determine whether prophylactic HPV vaccination (three doses of Cervarix® (AS04-HPV-16/18)-vaccine) affects preterm birth (PTB) rates. All identified 80,272 residents in 1992-95 birth cohorts in Finland were eligible for the trial and 20,513 of 39,420 (51.9%) females consented to participate. ⋯ PTB rate, especially early PTB rate, was lower among the HPV-vaccinated women. Reduction of PTB incidence after prophylactic HPV vaccination would lead to public health benefits globally. Trial Registration:NCT00534638.

We examined the effectiveness of a lay health worker (promotora)-delivered intervention on increasing breast and cervical cancer screening among low-income, primarily uninsured Latinas living in El Paso, Texas. ⋯ A promotora-delivered behavioral intervention, embedded in a community-based organization, increased mammography uptake in all women and Pap uptake among women 50 years and older in a sample of low-income Latinas. Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of fact-checking social media vaccine misinformation on attitudes toward vaccines.
Social media vaccine misinformation can negatively influence vaccine attitudes. It is urgent to develop communication approaches to reduce the misinformation's impact. This study aimed to test the effects of fact-checking labels for misinformation on attitudes toward vaccines. ⋯ Exposure to fact-checking labels on misinformation can generate more positive attitudes toward vaccines in comparison to exposure to misinformation. Incorporating labels from trusted universities and health institutions on social media platforms is a promising direction for addressing the vaccine misinformation problem. This points to the necessity for closer collaboration between public health and research institutions and social media companies to join efforts in addressing the current misinformation threat.

Randomized Controlled TrialComputer-tailored intervention increases colorectal cancer screening among low-income African Americans in primary care: Results of a randomized trial.
Although African Americans have the highest colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality rates of any racial group, their screening rates remain low. ⋯ This one-time computer-tailored intervention significantly improved CRC screening rates among low-income African American patients. This finding was largely driven by increasing SBT but the impact of the intervention on colonoscopy screening was strong. Implementation of a CRC screening quality improvement program in the VA site that included provision of stool blood test kits and follow-up likely contributed to the strong intervention effect observed at that site. Randomized Controlled TrialGiven a choice between self-sampling at home for HPV testing and standard of care screening at the clinic, what do African American women choose? Findings from a group randomized controlled trial.
The goals of this study were to: (1) evaluate adherence to cervical cancer screening using a patient-centered approach that provided a choice of self-sampling at home for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing or standard of care screening at the local health department ('Choice') versus only standard of care screening at the local health department ('SCS') among un/under-screened African-American women; and (2) examine whether women given a choice were more likely to choose and adhere to self-sampling for HPV testing. We conducted a group randomized trial among un/under-screened African-American women in the Mississippi Delta, with "town" as the unit of randomization (12 towns). Both interventions (i.e., 'Choice' versus 'SCS') were delivered by Community Health Workers (CHWs) through a door-to-door approach. ⋯ Women in the 'Choice' arm were significantly more likely to choose (76%) and adhere to self-sampling at home for HPV testing (48% adherence) compared to standard of care screening at the local health department (7.5% adherence). A theory-driven, CHW-led intervention can effectively promote cervical cancer screening among un/under-screened African-American women in a rural setting when women are provided with a choice between two screening modalities.
