Randomized Controlled TrialImproving lifestyle and risk perception through patient involvement in nurse-led cardiovascular risk management: a cluster-randomized controlled trial in primary care.
To determine if lifestyle improved at a short term through an intervention to involve patients in cardiovascular risk management by the practice nurse. ⋯ The intervention seems to have improved the patients' risk perception, anxiety and satisfaction with the communication, which are important conditions for shared decision making. However, we found no additional effect of the intervention on lifestyle.

Assess the cost-effectiveness of a 16-week weight loss intervention (Weight-Wise) for low-income midlife women. ⋯ Our results suggest the Weight-Wise intervention may be a cost-effective approach to improving the health of low-income women.

Physical Activity Across the Curriculum (PAAC) was a three-year cluster randomized controlled trial to promote physical activity and diminish increases in overweight and obesity in elementary school children. ⋯ The Physical Activity Across the Curriculum approach may promote daily Physical activity and academic achievement in elementary school children. Additionally, 75 min of Physical Activity Across the Curriculum activities may attenuate increases in Body Mass Index.

Randomized Controlled TrialAged garlic extract supplemented with B vitamins, folic acid and L-arginine retards the progression of subclinical atherosclerosis: a randomized clinical trial.
Previous studies demonstrated that aged garlic extract reduces multiple cardiovascular risk factors. This study was designed to assess whether aged garlic extract therapy with supplements (AGE+S) favorably affects inflammatory and oxidation biomarkers, vascular function and progression of atherosclerosis as compared to placebo. ⋯ AGE+S is associated with a favorable improvement in oxidative biomarkers, vascular function, and reduced progression of atherosclerosis.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA multifaceted school-based intervention to reduce risk for type 2 diabetes in at-risk youth.
To evaluate the impact of a multifaceted, school-based intervention on inner city youth at high risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to determine whether the addition of coping skills training (CST) and health coaching improves outcomes. ⋯ A multifaceted, school-based intervention may hold promise for reducing metabolic risk in urban, minority youth.
