Emergency departments are facing nowadays an increasing number of illegal drug-related health problems, associated with medicolegal and/or social consequences. Body stuffers are street cocaine dealers, who either store wrapped packets of drugs in their rectum or hastily swallow them, prompted by fear of police's arrest. These packets can be life threatening in case of leakage. We evaluate the diagnostic value of unenhanced multidetector CT (MDCT) for detection of cocaine-filled packets (CFP) ingested by body stuffers in a phantom model. ⋯ Unenhanced MDCT without bowel preparation is a fast, reliable and easily reproducible imaging modality for the immediate detection of ingested CFP, thus facilitating medicolegal management of body stuffers.

Additional value of contrast enhanced intraoperative ultrasound for colorectal liver metastases.
Substantial recurrence rates following partial liver resection for colorectal liver metastases (CRM) imply that small metastases remain undetected using intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS). The aim of this study was to evaluate the additional value of contrast enhanced IOUS (CE-IOUS) when compared to preoperative contrast enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) and IOUS in liver surgery for CRM. ⋯ The addition of CE-IOUS to preoperative CE-CT and IOUS does not improve the ability to characterize already detected lesions. In a small number of patients it appears to facilitate the detection of new metastatic lesions with implications on surgical strategy.

The aim of the study was to present the MRI findings of non-traumatic edema-like lesions presented acutely in the adult knee and to correlate them with the 3-year outcome and the bone mineral density (BMD) in the spine. ⋯ In the context of acute non-traumatic knee BME, the age and sex of the patient, the duration of symptoms before imaging, the pattern of BME, and the BMD appear to correlate with the final outcome.

Diagnostic value of 64-slice CT angiography in coronary artery disease: a systematic review.
To perform a systematic review of the diagnostic value of 64-multislice CT (MSCT) angiography in the detection of coronary artery disease (CAD) when compared to conventional coronary angiography. ⋯ Our results showed that 64-slice CT angiography has a high-diagnostic value in the detection of CAD. Severe coronary artery calcification seems to be the major factor affecting the visualisation and assessment.

Bone marrow oedema is associated with a wide variety of pathological processes including both benign and malignant bone tumours. This imaging finding in relation to intraosseous tumours can aid in providing a more focused differential diagnosis. In this review, we will discuss the MR imaging of bone marrow oedema surrounding intraosseous neoplasms. ⋯ Metastases and malignant primary bone tumours such as osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma and chondrosarcoma may also be surrounded by bone marrow oedema. The imaging findings of these conditions are reviewed and illustrated. Finally, the importance of bone marrow oedema in assessment of post chemotherapeutic response is addressed.
