To investigate suicidality related to cluster headache and factors associated with increased suicidality in cluster headache patients. ⋯ Cluster headache attack carries a high suicidality compared to the interictal or between-bouts state. An intensive treatment to reduce cluster headache burden may be helpful to alleviate suicide risk in cluster headache patients.

There is limited research on the association of sleep problems with International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-II)-defined headache subtypes in youth, particularly from community-based samples. This cross-sectional study examines the associations of sleep patterns, symptoms and disorders with specific headache subtypes among adolescents from the general population of the United States. ⋯ Pervasive sleep disturbances in adolescents with headache have important implications for the evaluation, treatment and etiology of pediatric headache.

To systematically evaluate the safety and tolerability of calcitonin-gene-related peptide binding monoclonal antibodies from the results of randomized controlled trials. ⋯ This study provides data on the safety and tolerability profiles of calcitonin-gene-related peptide binding monoclonal antibodies and confirms their potential use as preventive treatments for episodic migraine. In addition to the acceptable withdrawal rates, serious adverse events were rare, and the severity of most adverse events was mild to moderate. Injection site reaction may be the major adverse event associated with galcanezumab.

Eptinezumab for prevention of chronic migraine: A randomized phase 2b clinical trial.
Calcitonin gene-related peptide plays an important role in migraine pathophysiology. We evaluated eptinezumab, an intravenous (IV) anti-calcitonin gene-related peptide monoclonal antibody, for the prevention of chronic migraine. ⋯ The results of this trial demonstrate that eptinezumab appears effective and well-tolerated for the preventive treatment of chronic migraine and justifies the conduct of pivotal phase 3 trials for migraine prevention.

Deep brain stimulation in the ventral tegmental area (VTA-DBS) has provided remarkable therapeutic benefits in decreasing headache frequency and severity in patients with medically refractory chronic cluster headache (CH). However, to date the effects of VTA-DBS on cognition, mood and quality of life have not been examined in detail. ⋯ We confirm the efficacy of VTA-DBS in the treatment of medically refractory chronic cluster headache. The reduction of headache frequency and severity was associated with a significant reduction of anxiety. Furthermore, the result suggests that VTA-DBS for chronic cluster headache improves pain-related help-seeking behaviours and does not produce any change in cognition.
