Multicenter StudyOphthalmology patients' interest in online access to clinic notes at three US clinics.
This study aimed to understand patients' perceptions about potential benefits and harms of accessing their own ophthalmology clinic notes via an electronic patient portal as part of the OpenNotes initiative. ⋯ Patients at three US eye clinics were strongly in favour of online access to ophthalmology notes and were optimistic this access would improve their understanding and self-care. Ophthalmologists should consider offering online access to their notes to enhance doctor-patient communication and improve clinical outcomes.

Optical coherence tomography predicts 4-year incident diabetic neuropathy.
To examine the capability of optical coherence tomography-derived retinal thickness measures in detecting 4-year incident diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). ⋯ A lower retinal thickness at the parafovea and a higher BMI can predict 4-year incident neuropathy in patients with diabetes, with acceptable diagnostic accuracies. This OCT-derived measure may serve as a potential ophthalmic marker in the screening of patients at risk of developing DPN.

Night-time pedestrian conspicuity: effects of clothing on drivers' eye movements.
Drivers' responses and eye movements were assessed as they approached pedestrians at night in order to explore the relative conspicuity benefits of different configurations of retroreflective markings. ⋯ Adding biomotion reflectors to the vest facilitated earlier recognition of pedestrians and faster identification of the direction that the pedestrian faced. These findings confirm that the conspicuity advantages of biomotion configurations on pedestrians at night result in part from drivers fixating pedestrians earlier and more efficiently.

Review Meta AnalysisStudies using concentric ring bifocal and peripheral add multifocal contact lenses to slow myopia progression in school-aged children: a meta-analysis.
To evaluate the effect of soft contact lens with concentric ring bifocal and peripheral add multifocal designs on controlling myopia progression in school-aged children. ⋯ Both concentric ring bifocal and peripheral add multifocal soft contact lenses are clinically effective for controlling myopia in school-aged children, with an overall myopia control rates of 30~50% over 2 years. Concentric ring bifocal soft contact lenses seem to have greater effect than peripheral add multifocal soft contact lenses.

Observational StudyMyopia and cognitive dysfunction among elderly Chinese adults: a propensity score matching analysis.
The association between myopia and cognitive dysfunction among elderly adults was assessed by applying a Propensity Score Matching (PSM) approach. This is a statistical method which allows investigators to estimate causal treatment effects using observational or nonrandomised data. ⋯ Myopia was associated with a higher prevalence of cognitive dysfunction among elderly Chinese aged 60 years or older in China. The PSM approach may be a useful method to address selection bias in observational studies when randomised trials cannot ethically be conducted.
