Comparative Study[Assessment of 44 heat and moisture exchange filters. What to choose?].
If the use of heat and moisture exchange filter (HMEF) in anaesthesia is recommended by the French Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (SFAR), the criteria's choice are not clearly defined. Many HMEF are proposed by manufacturers which technical characteristics are different. ⋯ Criteria's used by manufactures to evaluate there filters are not always precised or too restrictive. The technical tests, the international norms, the certificates of validation, the ergonomic qualities and the definition of our needs are the main elements of choice of a filter.

[Lung contusion: relevance of initial injured pulmonary volume measurement by computed tomography].
To evaluate computed tomography quantification of injured pulmonary volume after thoracic trauma and its relevance for severity grade of patients with lung contusion. ⋯ Injured parenchymal pulmonary volume evaluation on initial tomodensitometry seems to be an important indicator of lung contusion severity. Thoracic computed tomography provides additional prognostic information in the initial evaluation of thoracic trauma with parenchymal injury.

Few cases of postoperative hypoglycaemia complicating the removal of a phaeochromocytoma have been reported in the literature. We reported one case of hypoglycaemia secondary to the removal of right phaeochromocytoma in a 30-year-old patient. ⋯ The prevention of this complication requires the repeated measurement of the capillary glycaemia in the postoperative period. An important supply of carbohydrate may be necessary to maintain a normoglycaemia.

Case Reports[Assessment of end-tidal CO2 in the pleural chest tube during lung volume reduction surgery].
Surgery for emphysema is considered as one of the most challenging procedure for anaesthesiologist. Because of the critical illness of such patient, perioperative monitoring is important. Ventilatory monitoring is often difficult or impossible due to a possible massive air leak during the procedure. This case described how ETCO2 was assessed by capnography monitoring on the chest tube drainage.
