Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialHypertension prophylaxis with omega-3 fatty acids in heart transplant recipients.
This study sought to determine whether omega-3 fatty acids act as hypertension prophylaxis in heart transplant recipients and have an impact on vascular reactivity. ⋯ Postoperative daily administration of 4 g of omega-3 fatty acids in heart transplant recipients is effective as hypertension prophylaxis, depending on increases in serum eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids. Preservation of microvascular endothelial function, demonstrated by a more pronounced response to forearm skin ischemia in the treatment group, may contribute to the hypotensive role of omega-3 fatty acids.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialRandomized trial of a hospital-based exercise training program after acute myocardial infarction: cardiac autonomic effects.
This study sought to determine whether a moderate intensity supervised exercise training program, performed immediately after an uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction, improves recovery in cardiac autonomic function compared with standard advice about activity at home. ⋯ A hospital-based exercise training program increased endurance capacity but did not improve recovery of cardiovascular antonomic function after uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialLow molecular weight heparin (reviparin) in percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty. Results of a randomized, double-blind, unfractionated heparin and placebo-controlled, multicenter trial (REDUCE trial). Reduction of Restenosis After PTCA, Early Administration of Reviparin in a Double-Blind Unfractionated Heparin and Placebo-Controlled Evaluation.
The specific objective of the REDUCE trial was to evaluate the effect of low molecular weight heparin on the incidence and occurrence of restenosis in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). ⋯ Reviparin use during and after coronary angioplasty did not reduce the occurrence of major clinical events or the incidence of angiographic restenosis over 30 weeks.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEffects of oral propafenone administration before electrical cardioversion of chronic atrial fibrillation: a placebo-controlled study.
Our aim was to evaluate the benefits and risks of administering propafenone before electrical defibrillation for chronic atrial fibrillation. ⋯ Propafenone, given before electrical cardioversion for chronic atrial fibrillation does not affect the mean defibrillation threshold or the rate of successful arrhythmia conversion. It decreases the recurrence of atrial fibrillation early after shock, thus allowing more patients to be discharged from the hospital with sinus rhythm.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialPrognostic significance of precordial ST segment depression on admission electrocardiogram in patients with inferior wall myocardial infarction.
This study assessed retrospectively the correlation between the pattern of precordial ST segment depression on the admission electrocardiogram (ECG) and hospital mortality in patients with an inferior myocardial infarction treated with intravenous thrombolytic therapy. ⋯ The risk of mortality is higher in patients with an inferior myocardial infarction and maximal ST segment depression in precordial leads V4 to V6 versus precordial leads V1 to V3 on the admission ECG.
