Plate presetting and arthroscopic reduction technique (PART) for treatment of distal radius fractures.
Arthroscopy has been reported to be an efficient adjunct for the surgical treatment for distal radius fractures (DRF). However, performing wrist arthroscopy during palmar locking plate fixation seems to be troublesome. We have developed a surgical technique involving presetting of a palmar locking plate and an arthroscopic reduction technique (PART) of the fracture that can facilitate the procedure. This study is aimed to investigate the effectiveness of our technique in the treatment of DRF. ⋯ The palmar locking plate in combination with arthroscopic reduction technique (PART) leads to good and excellent results. It can be recommended for all fractures of the distal radius needing operative treatment. Arthroscopic reduction of intra-articular fragments is superior to reduction under fluoroscopy. PART allows also the detection of intra-articular soft tissue lesions such as scapholunate ligament tears and injuries of the triangular fibrocartilage complex.

[Microsurgical training in Germany - results of a survey among trainers and trainees].
Reconstructive microsurgery is an essential part of plastic surgery. To live up to the high technical demands of today's sophisticated techniques, a structured microsurgical training is required. However, such curricula are rare in Germany. ⋯ Based on our findings, representatives of microsurgical trainers and trainees, together with national societies might be able to establish a national curriculum for microsurgical training. The clinical implementation of such a structured train-ing will require significant personal resources. However, this expenditure seems to be justified by the increasing complexity of techniques, the rising demand of patients and the limited time for -surgical training.

Comparative Study[Comparison of functional results with MRI findings after surgical treatment of transscaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations of the wrist: the role of scapholunate ligament lesions].
The aim of this study was to review the outcome of transscaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations by MRI to use the advantages of MRI to show the post-traumatic degenerative changes, the examination of cartilage, the integrity of the ligaments and the vascularisation of the carpal bones. A second aim of this study is to interpret the findings in correlation to the functional results and the individual perception of hand functionality (PRWE). ⋯ MRI findings, as well as X-ray findings, do not correlate with the subjective and objective functional outcomes after surgical treatment of transscaphoid perilunate fracture dislocations. It can be assumed that SL ligament lesions seen in MRI play a major role over the long term course.

Comparative StudyA comparison of outcomes after K-wire fixation of distal radius fractures with and without associated ulnar styloid fracture.
A prospective study was carried out to compare outcomes after K-wire fixation of distal radius fractures without and with associated ulnar styloid fracture, but without fixation of the styloid fracture. ⋯ An unrepaired ulnar styloid fracture does not affect the outcome of a distal radius fracture which is fixed by the "augmented" K-wire method.
