[The endoscopic management of the cubital tunnel syndrome--an anatomical study and first clinical results].
Besides the carpal tunnel syndrome, the cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) represents the second most frequent nerve entrapment syndrome. The current gold standard for surgical therapy consists of simple open decompression. Recently, an endoscopic procedure involving long-distance decompression of the ulnar nerve has been developed and this is the topic of the present study. ⋯ This was especially the case for the first 10 cm from the medial epicondyle In the second part we report our experiences with this endoscopic decompression procedure in 36 patients. With this endoscopic decompression we achieved good to very good results according to the Bishop classification in 28 patients (78%). On the basis of anatomic considerations and our current experience, the endoscopic procedure seems to represent a promising alternative to simple decompression.

[Aspiration of flexor tendon sheath ganglion guided by ultrasonography. An alternative to blind aspiration or surgery?].
Surgery is generally thought to be the most successful treatment of flexor tendon sheath ganglions. Most previous investigators judge the blind percutaneous aspiration as unreliable. ⋯ We performed percutaneous aspiration under ultrasonographic control in 60 patients with flexor tendon sheath ganglions. Encouraged by our favourable results we can recommend this procedure instead of the blind percutaneous aspiration and even instead of surgery.

Review Comparative Study[Dermal subsitute with the collagen-elastin matrix Matriderm in burn injuries: a comprehensive review].
Matriderm is a dermal substitute consisting of a native (non-cross-linked) collagen matrix supplemented by a elastin hydrolysate. It is available in sheets of 1 mm and 2 mm thickness, and may be covered in a single step procedure with immediate split thickness skin grafting. Duration of the surgical procedures are only marginally increased. ⋯ In experimental models the matrix reduces wound contracture, histologically collagen bundles in the scar are more randomly orientated. Clinical trials with a long-term clinical evaluation showed no difference in scar elasticity between the described dermal substitute and split thickness grafts alone. There is a lack of clinical data on the development of wound contracture.

Comparative Study[Thermal trauma sustained during epileptic seizures--analysis of 33 cases].
Burn injuries are a serious threat to individuals with altered consciousness during epilepsy. The objective of this study detailing 33 individuals who sustained scalds or burn injuries during an epileptic seizure, was to clarify typical injury mechanisms, extent, therapy and sequelae of these injuries and thus identify potential preventive measures to protect this special population from thermal trauma. ⋯ In conclusion, epileptic seizures can cause severe and deep thermal trauma. Our data shows that most of these injuries happen at home and may be easily prevented by simple safety devices, such as water thermo-regulators or the avoidance of high-risk situations, it seems advisable to inform patients with epilepsy and their families and care-givers of this specific danger.

Comparative Study[Critical evaluation of diagnostics and therapeutic strategies in brachial plexus injuries in Austria: a retrospective study on incidence, diagnostics, treatment results and algorithm].
Brachial plexus injury is a rare entity, often resulting in lifelong motor and sensory dysfunctions. Sometimes neuropathic pain is predominant. The aim of this retrospective cohort study was to analyse current algorithms of diagnostics and treatment in brachial plexus injuries. The results have been compared to literature. ⋯ An algorithm for diagnosis and treatment needs to be established. Awareness for the sophisticated treatment of this type of injury has to be stimulated. Precise clinical assessment and knowledge of differentiated treatment options have to be available in order to improve the results.
