Few studies have examined whether modern radiotherapy and chemotherapy affect the risk of contralateral breast cancer (CBC), and results are inconclusive. ⋯ Young patients with BC irradiated with breast tangentials experience increased risk of CBC, especially in those with a positive family history of BC. This finding should be taken into account when advising breast radiation with tangential fields to young patients with BC. Adjuvant chemotherapy seemed to reduce the risk of CBC during the first 5 years after treatment only.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Randomized trial of postoperative reirradiation combined with chemotherapy after salvage surgery compared with salvage surgery alone in head and neck carcinoma.
Full-dose reirradiation combined with chemotherapy has been shown to be feasible after salvage surgery with acceptable toxicity. The Groupe d'Etude des Tumeurs de la Tête et du Cou and Groupe d'Oncologie Radiothérapie Tête Et Cou groups performed a randomized study to assess its efficacy. ⋯ Full-dose reirradiation combined with chemotherapy after salvage surgery significantly improved DFS, but had no significant impact on OS. An increase in both acute and late toxicity was observed.
