We compared efficacy of trastuzumab versus no trastuzumab in patients with small (≤ 2 cm) human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) -positive breast cancer treated in randomized trials. ⋯ Women with HER2-positive tumors ≤ 2 cm in the randomized trastuzumab trials derived substantial DFS and OS benefit from adjuvant trastuzumab. Trastuzumab-treated patients with HR-positive disease and ≤ one positive lymph node may be candidates for trials assessing less aggressive treatment approaches.

We examined the impact of different epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations and clinical characteristics on progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with advanced EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer treated with EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as first-line therapy. ⋯ Although EGFR TKIs significantly prolonged PFS overall and in all subgroups, compared with chemotherapy, greater benefits were observed in those with exon 19 deletions, never-smokers, and women. These findings should enhance drug development and economic analyses, as well as the design and interpretation of clinical trials.

Practice Guideline Meta Analysis
Society of Surgical Oncology-American Society for Radiation Oncology consensus guideline on margins for breast-conserving surgery with whole-breast irradiation in stages I and II invasive breast cancer.
Controversy exists regarding the optimal margin width in breast-conserving surgery for invasive breast cancer. ⋯ The use of no ink on tumor as the standard for an adequate margin in invasive cancer in the era of multidisciplinary therapy is associated with low rates of IBTR and has the potential to decrease re-excision rates, improve cosmetic outcomes, and decrease health care costs. Meta Analysis
An individual person data meta-analysis of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and breast cancer recurrence.
There is little consensus regarding preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in breast cancer (BC). We examined the association between preoperative MRI and local recurrence (LR) as primary outcome, as well as distant recurrence (DR), in patients with BC. ⋯ Preoperative MRI for staging the cancerous breast does not reduce the risk of LR or DR.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Meta-analysis of cognitive functioning in breast cancer survivors previously treated with standard-dose chemotherapy.
Evidence is mixed regarding long-term cognitive deficits in patients treated with chemotherapy. Previous meta-analyses have not focused specifically on the postchemotherapy period and have not incorporated several recent studies. The goal of the current study was to conduct a meta-analysis of cognitive functioning in breast cancer survivors who were treated with chemotherapy ≥ 6 months previously. ⋯ Results indicate that, on average, observed cognitive deficits in patients with breast cancer previously treated with chemotherapy are small in magnitude and limited to the domains of verbal ability and visuospatial ability. This information can be used to inform interventions to educate patients with breast cancer regarding the long-term impact of chemotherapy on cognitive functioning.
