The Use of High-Fidelity Manikins for Advanced Life Support Training-A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of high versus low fidelity manikins in the context of advanced life support training for improving knowledge, skill performance at course conclusion, skill performance between course conclusion and one year, skill performance at one year, skill performance in actual resuscitations, and patient outcomes. ⋯ The use of high fidelity manikins for advanced life support training is associated with moderate benefits for improving skills performance at course conclusion. Future research should define the optimal means of tailoring fidelity to enhance short and long term educational goals and clinical outcomes.

Effects of in-hospital low targeted temperature after out of hospital cardiac arrest: A systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials.
We performed this systematic review to evaluate the effectiveness of in-hospital low targeted temperature in adult patients after out of hospital cardiac arrest on survival and neurologic performance. ⋯ In-hospital low targeted temperature (<4 °C) improved short and long-term mortality when compared to no targeted temperature. In contrast, low T did not improve outcome compared with a slightly higher targeted temperature (≈ 36 °C).

Ultrasonography for confirmation of endotracheal tube placement: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study aimed to undertake a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize evidence on the diagnostic value of ultrasonography for the assessment of endotracheal tube placement in adult patients. ⋯ Current evidence supports that ultrasonography has high diagnostic value for identifying esophageal intubation. With optimal sensitivity and specificity, ultrasonography can be a valuable adjunct in this aspect of airway assessment, especially in situations where capnography may be unreliable.

Therapeutic temperature management after cardiac arrest and the risk of bleeding: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Prognosis after cardiac arrest in the era of modern critical care is still poor with a high mortality of approximately 90%. Around 30% of the survivors have neurological impairments. Targeted temperature management (TTM) is the only treatment option which can improve mortality and neurological outcome. It is so far unclear if bleeding complications occur more often in patients undergoing TTM treatment. ⋯ The data included in our meta-analysis indicate that, concerning the risk of bleeding, TTM is a safe method for patients after cardiac arrest. We did not observe a significantly higher risk for bleeding in patients undergoing TTM.

Cardiac catheterization is associated with superior outcomes for survivors of out of hospital cardiac arrest: Review and meta-analysis.
Survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) have a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Invasive cardiac assessment with coronary angiography offers the potential for improving outcomes by facilitating early revascularization. The aim of the present study was to review the published data on early coronary angiography for survivors of OHCA, and its impact on survival and neurological outcomes. ⋯ Early coronary angiography in patients following OHCA is associated with improved outcome and better survival.
