Trends in utilization of mechanical circulatory support in patients hospitalized after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
This study sought to examine the trends and predictors of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) use in patients hospitalized after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). ⋯ There is a steady increase in the use of MCS in OHCA, especially PVAD and ECMO, despite lack of randomized clinical trial data supporting an improvement in outcomes. More definitive randomized studies are needed to assess accurately the optimal role of MCS in this patient population.

Burden of caregiving after a child's in-hospital cardiac arrest.
To describe caregiver burden among those whose children survive in-hospital cardiac arrest and have high risk of neurologic disability, and explore factors associated with burden during the first year post-arrest. ⋯ Caregiver burden is substantial during the first year after paediatric in-hospital cardiac arrest, and associated with the extent of the child's neurobehavioural dysfunction.

Target temperature management (TTM) is used in comatose post-cardiac arrest patients, but the recommended temperature range is wide. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of TTM at 32-34 °C while considering the degree of cerebral injury and cerebral circulation, as assessed by regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2). ⋯ TTM at 32-34 °C effectively decreased all-cause mortality in comatose OHCA patients with rSO2 41-60% on hospital arrival in Japan.

Cooling methods of targeted temperature management and neurological recovery after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest: A nationwide multicenter multi-level analysis.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the cooling method used for target temperature management (TTM) was associated with neurological recovery after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). ⋯ The cooling methods for TTM did not show any significant difference in neurological recovery in multi-level logistic regression analysis. Only intracavitary cooling resulted in a lower survival to discharge than external surface cooling.

Epidemiology and outcome of paediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrests: A paediatric sub-study of the Pan-Asian resuscitation outcomes study (PAROS).
The Pan Asian Resuscitation Outcomes Study (PAROS) is a retrospective study of out- of-hospital cardiac arrest(OHCA), collaborating with EMS agencies and academic centers in Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and UAE-Dubai. The objectives of this study is to describe the characteristics and outcomes, and to find factors associated with survival after paediatric OHCA. ⋯ The wide variation in the survival outcomes amongst the seven countries in our study may be due to the differences in the delivery of pre-hospital interventions and bystander CPR rates.
