Effects of magnesium on the dose of rocuronium for deep neuromuscular blockade: A randomised controlled trial.
Magnesium is known to enhance the effect of rocuronium, but the extent is not quantified. ⋯ Magnesium reduced the dose of rocuronium required for deep neuromuscular blockade by approximately 20% without affecting the recovery time after administration of sugammadex.

Effect of rectus sheath block vs. spinal anaesthesia on time-to-readiness for hospital discharge after trans-peritoneal hand-assisted laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy: A randomised trial.
The role of spinal anaesthesia in patients having a transperitoneal hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in an enhanced recovery setting has never been investigated. ⋯ Substitution of RSB with spinal anaesthesia using 12.5 mg hyperbaric bupivacaine and 0.5 mg diamorphine, together with a general anaesthetic failed to confer any benefit on time-to-discharge readiness following transperitoneal hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy. RSB provided similar analgesia in the immediate postoperative period with a low frequency of side-effects in this cohort.

Effect of deep neuromuscular blockade on serum cytokines and postoperative delirium in elderly patients undergoing total hip replacement: A prospective single-blind randomised controlled trial.
Deep neuromuscular blockade (NMB) may reduce muscle injury and related inflammation. The inflammation is one of the pathophysiological processes of peri-operative complications. ⋯ Our findings suggest that inflammation related to peri-operative complications could be associated with the depth of NMB during total hip replacement. However, the incidence of POD might not be associated to the depth of NMB.

Early postoperative recovery after peri-acetabular osteotomy: A double-blind, randomised single-centre trial of 48 vs. 8 mg dexamethasone.
Peri-acetabular osteotomy is the joint-preserving treatment of choice in young adults with hip dysplasia but is associated with intense pain and high opioid consumption postoperatively. ⋯ Forty-eight milligram of dexamethasone did not reduce pain in the immediate postoperative phase compared with an 8 mg dose. We observed insignificantly lower pain scores and significantly lower cumulated opioid requirements in the 48 mg group during the first four postoperative days.

Analgesic efficacy of two approaches of ultrasound-guided quadratus lumborum block for laparoscopic renal surgery: A randomised controlled trial.
Moderate-to-severe pain exists in the early postoperative period after laparoscopic renal surgery. ⋯ For patients undergoing laparoscopic renal surgery, a pre-operative single-shot QLB via the lateral or posterior approach did not decrease opioid consumption, but improved analgesia for up to 24 h after surgery.
