[Biodegradable screw versus a press-fit bone plug fixation for ACL reconstruction: a prospective randomized study].
Press-fit fixation of a tendon graft has been advocated in order to achieve tendon to bone healing. ⋯ Both interference screw and a press-fit fixation lead to a high number of good or very good outcomes after ACL reconstruction. Tibial press-fit fixation decreases the amount of proximal bone tunnel enlargement. Press-fit fixation decreases the amount of proximal bone tunnel enlargement and improves bone to tendon contact.

[Anatomic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with hamstrings using press-fit fixation without hardware: operative technique and long-term results of a prospective and randomized study].
An innovative technique for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been developed in 1998 which allows the grafts to be fixed by press-fit to the femoral and tibial tunnel without any hardware. The semitendinosus (ST) and gracilis tendons (GT) are built into a sling by tying a knot with the tendon ends and securing the knot after conditioning by sutures. For the femoral tunnel the anteromedial porta is used. ⋯ Re-rupture rates, subjective findings, knee stability and isokinetic testing showed similar results for both grafts. This is the first level I study which demonstrates cartilage protection by ACL reconstruction as long as the meniscus is intact at index surgery, shown by bilateral MRI analysis 9 years post-operation. There was no significant difference in the average grade of chondral and meniscus lesions between BPT and HT and in comparison of the operated to the intact knee, except for grade 3-4 lesions found at the 9 year follow-up, which were significantly higher in the BPT group.

[Volar locking compression plating versus dorsal plating for fractures of the distal radius: a prospective, randomized study].
This study investigated the radiographic and functional outcomes of two different methods for treating fractures of the distal part of the radius. ⋯ Despite significant advantages of the volar locked compression plating, subjective satisfaction did not differ between the two groups.

[Local therapy of grade IIa burns: efficacy and tolerability of a new hydrosome wound gel for the local treatment of grade IIa burns as compared with silver sulfadiazine ointment].
A new hydrosome wound gel is based on a new mechanism of action. It contains hydrosomes that penetrate to the wound bed and supply the wound with phospholipids, which are identical to membrane phospholipids of human cells. In this manner it supports the proliferative processes during wound healing. ⋯ In this study, the treatment of grade IIa burn wounds with hydrosome wound gel led to faster wound closure compared with treatment with sulfadiazine cream. Therefore, hydrosome gel represents a good alternative to sulfadiazine cream.

[The tele-visit as a telemedical technique in daily clinical practice. First results for elbow joint arthrolysis].
Technologies in telecommunication and information are being increasingly applied in the public health system of the western world. Also responsible for this development is the cost factor in the field of financing and maintenance of such a system of superior medical supply, as well as the concurrent patient' demand for optimized medical "24 h care and treatment". Pioneers in the use of telematic projects have, up until now, been large states such as the USA, Canada, Norway or Australia. ⋯ The functional outcome, duration of stay in hospital and the costs for treatment arising were determined. A standardized questionnaire was developed and the degree of satisfaction of the patients surveyed. A shorter stay in hospital was found together with lowered costs in medical treatment, while no differences in functional outcome could be found in comparison to the control group, although there was an additionally high grade of satisfaction with the new system.
