Bouldering is a new trend sport which has become popular in recent years. From April 2011 to June 2012 a total of 5 patients with elbow dislocations from bouldering were admitted to our level 1 trauma center. The injuries varied from simple elbow dislocations to complex fracture dislocations. ⋯ In all cases the falling height was less than 4 meters. The bouldering injury pattern, the diagnostic and therapeutic management as well as the rehabilitation program are described in detail in this article. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report on the special danger of bouldering for complex elbow injuries.

The tendency in surgical fields to subspecialize continues. Diagnostic possibilities and surgical indications are becoming more and more sophisticated. As a consequence, surgeons in Germany have the possibility to acquire qualifications in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and are allowed to employ MRI scanners without consulting radiologists. ⋯ This article aims to describe the requirements to achieve this special qualification and to give a summary on the legal issues in this matter.

Multicenter Study
[Causes, injuries, therapy and possibilities of prevention of equine-related accidents : Results of a 2-center-study.]
Horse riding is associated with a high rate of injuries. The possibilities of prevention are limited because of deficient knowledge about the causes and mechanisms of equine-related accidents. In the present study 198 equine-related accidents were analyzed and based on these data risk groups were identified and guidelines to improve safety in horse riding were formulated. ⋯ Equestrians wear helmets increasingly more when riding but the willingness to wear body protectors is disappointing. Protective headgear has been proven to reduce the risk of injuries but based on these data a positive effect of body protectors could not be shown. In this study safety vest users suffered from injuries of the upper body more often than those who did not wear a body protector. Children and adolescents often overestimate their skills; therefore, teaching and supervision of inexperienced young riders along with the use of protective equipment can prevent major injuries.
