[Management of bicondylar fractures of the tibial plateau with unilateral fixed-angle plate fixation].
This study was initiated to evaluate early results of a locked screw plate for unilateral fixation of bicondylar fractures of the tibial plateau. Emphasis was laid on malreduction, secondary loss of reduction, union rate, and infection. ⋯ We concluded that unilateral locked screw plating is a good alternative in the treatment of problematic fractures of the tibial plateau that are associated with soft tissue damage and metaphyseal comminution. The reduction technique for exact alignment is demanding.

[Supracondylar humerus fracture in childhood--an efficacy study. Results of a multicenter study by the Pediatric Traumatology Section of the German Society of Trauma Surgery--II: Costs and effectiveness of the treatment].
The following are the results and conclusions of a retrospective research study done on 886 patients with supracondylar fractures of the humerus. The study evaluates how effective the treatment procedures of the fractures are. The patients' fractures were categorized into four groups. ⋯ The patient will be hospitalized for a short period. The blount procedure will not be sufficient for this type of fracture. Therapy and procedure will be translated put in a perspective research study.

In this retrospective study of the pediatric trauma group of German trauma society, issued to investigate the state of the art treatment of the supracondylar fracture of the humerus, 13 clinics took part. In this first part of our study we tested the epidemiology and effectivity of therapeutic interventions based on the classification of v. Laer. 886 fractures were included with an average patients age of 5.8 years (+/- 2.9). ⋯ Therefore the classification was modified based on 4 groups: Type I undisplaced, Type II displacement in one plane, Type III displacement in two planes and Type IV displacement in three spatial planes. Using this classification we could found that in group II 25% of reduction an 7% of retentions were ineffective. For group III and IV we found that > 20% of the retention proofed to be ineffective.

Prospective, multicenter study addressing late results after operative treatment of acute thoracolumbar spinal injuries. ⋯ All treatment methods under study were appropriate for achieving comparable clinical and functional outcome. The internal fixator is superior in restoration of the spinal alignment. Best radiological outcome is achieved by combined stabilization. Merely by direct reconstruction of the anterior column the postoperative re-kyphosing is prevented and a gain in segmental angle is achieved.

[Surgical treatment of injuries of the thoracolumbar transition. 2: Operation and roentgenologic findings].
The authors report on a prospective multicenter study with regard to the operative treatment of acute fractures and dislocations of the thoracolumbar spine (T10-L2). The study should analyze the operative methods currently used and determine the results in a large representative collective. This investigation was realized by the working group "spine" of the German Trauma Society. ⋯ The multicenter study determines the actual incidence of thoracolumbar fractures and dislocations with associated injuries and describes the current standard of operative treatment. The efforts and prospects of different surgical methods could be demonstrated considering certain related risks. The follow-up of the population is still in progress and the late results remain for future publication.
