Dexamethasone Plus Bupivacaine Versus Bupivacaine in Bilateral Trans-incisional Paravertebral Block in Lumbar Spine Surgeries, a Randomized Controlled Trial.
Few studies examined the analgesic effects of dexamethasone in lumbar paravertebral block, specifically the transincisional approach. This study aimed to compare dexamethasone with bupivacaine versus bupivacaine alone for bilateral transincisional paravertebral block (TiPVB) for postoperative analgesia in lumbar spine surgeries. ⋯ Adding dexamethasone to bupivacaine in TiPVB resulted in a prolonged analgesia-free period and lower opioid consumption in lumbar spine surgeries with comparable incidence of adverse events.

Mindfulness Combined with Exercise Online (MOVE) Compared with a Self-Management Guide for Adults with Chronic Pain: A Feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial.
Limited studies exist combining mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and exercise in a pain management programme (PMP), with none thus far delivering a combined intervention as an online PMP. This study aimed to explore the acceptability and feasibility of a combined MBSR and exercise online PMP for adults with chronic pain and to examine the feasibility of conducting a randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing MBSR and exercise delivered online with an online self-management guide. ⋯ The findings suggest both interventions explored are acceptable and feasible. A fully powered RCT examining the effectiveness of MBSR combined with exercise, delivered live online is warranted.

An Analysis of how Herpes Zoster Pain affects Health Related Quality of Life of Placebo subjects from Three Randomized Phase III Studies.
Herpes zoster (HZ) is a painful condition caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, negatively affecting the lives of patients. In this post hoc analysis, we describe the impact of HZ pain on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and activities of daily living (ADL) of immunocompetent individuals 50 years of age and older and in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients age 18 years of age and older. ⋯ Moderate and severe HZ pain had a substantial negative impact on all aspects of HRQoL and ADL. This impact was independent of age and immunosuppression.

Comparison of the Stress Responses Following TAP Block and Epidural Anesthesia in Patients Undergoing Elective Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Under General Anesthesia: Randomized Clinical Trial.
Major surgeries and the accompanied acute stress response are associated with poor immune system function and extensive immunologic changes. This study was conducted to compare postsurgery stress responses after transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks and epidural anesthesia in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia. ⋯ A significant decrease in the mean blood sugar, serum cortisol, CRP, and white blood cell in both groups at 6 and 24 hours after the surgery was noted. The pain score decreased 24 hours after surgery in the epidural anesthesia group and increased in the TAP block group.

Long-term Efficacy of Pectoserratus Plane Block for Prevention of Post-mastectomy Pain Syndrome: Extended Follow-up From a Randomised Controlled Trial.
Pectoserratus plane block (PSPB) leads to lower postoperative pain intensity. We examined whether PSPB could also reduce the incidence of post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS) in women undergoing breast cancer surgery. ⋯ The results suggest that, in the long term, PSPB-treated participants were associated with a statistically significantly lower risk of PMPS than those who received standard general anesthesia.
