Activity management is an important treatment component in chronic pain programs. However, there are shortcomings in measures of this construct, leading to inconsistencies in research findings. Here, we describe the development of the Activity Management Inventory for Pain (AMI-P). ⋯ The findings support the reliability and validity of the AMI-P scales, while also highlighting the complexity and multidimensional aspects of activity management.

An Exploration of Physical Therapy Outcomes and Psychometric Properties of the Patient-Specific Functional Scale Following an Interdisciplinary Pain Management Program.
The Patient-Specific Functional Scale (PSFS) has been used to assess physical functioning in various chronic pain populations. There is a lack of evidence for its use with diverse pain populations who have high-impact chronic pain (HICP). The primary aim of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of the PSFS with a heterogeneous sample of patients with HICP. ⋯ The psychometric properties of the PSFS showed mixed support for construct validity but good support for the responsiveness of the PSFS when used with a heterogeneous sample of patients with HICP.

Endometriosis, a painful chronic gynecologic condition, contributes to disruptions in multiple areas of life for both those affected and their partner. Pain catastrophizing has been associated with worse pain outcomes and quality of life for women with endometriosis and with more cognitive load for partners. Examining both partners' pain catastrophizing dyadically with our variables of interest will enhance understanding of its associations with the distressing nature of experiencing and responding to pain during sex for couples with endometriosis. ⋯ Consistent with the Communal Coping Model of pain catastrophizing, although meant to elicit support from the environment, the often-deleterious cognitive process of magnifying, ruminating, and feeling helpless about one's pain (or one's partner's pain) is associated with poorer outcomes for the individual with pain and their romantic partner. Implications for pain management include the relevance of involving the partner and attending to the pain cognitions of both members of the couple.

A biopsychosocial approach to understanding and treating pain is crucial; however, there are limited socially targeted interventions for adolescents with chronic pain (ACP). Peer support interventions implemented with other populations are associated with positive outcomes. ACPs perceive peer support to have high potential value. This study explored the preferences of ACP regarding the content and design of a group peer support intervention. ⋯ ACPs desire a facilitated socially focused intervention that provides them with the opportunity to spend time with other ACPs. A group peer support environment where ACPs can provide and receive peer support through sharing their experiences with others who understand them as well as engage in activities was described. The findings from this study provide insights for the development of a group peer support intervention.

This study aimed to compare the analgesic effects of continuous femoral nerve block (FNB), femoral triangle block (FTB), and adductor canal block (ACB) following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The goal was to identify the most effective nerve block technique among these three. ⋯ Continuous FTB provides postoperative analgesia comparable to FNB, but with the advantage of significantly less impact on quadriceps muscle strength, a benefit not seen with FNB. Both FTB and ACB are effective in preserving quadriceps strength postoperatively.
