Multicenter StudyAssessment of Emergency Department Antibiotic Discharge Prescription Dosing Errors for Pediatric Patients in a Community Hospital Health System.
We quantify and describe emergency department antibiotic discharge prescription dosing errors for pediatric patients in a community hospital health system. ⋯ Underdosing of amoxicillin in acute otitis media was a dosing error that occurred frequently throughout our community health system. Further research is needed to identify the clinical impact these errors have on pediatric patients.

Multicenter StudyExploratory Ingestions of Novel Anticoagulants and Antiplatelets: What Is the Risk?
Historically, anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents included warfarin and aspirin, respectively. In recent years, numerous novel anticoagulants (eg, direct thrombin inhibitors and factor Xa inhibitors) as well as the adenosine diphosphate receptor antagonists have increased significantly. Little information on the bleeding risk after exploratory ingestion of these agents is available. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate the bleeding risk of these agents after an exploratory ingestion in children 6 years or younger. ⋯ Accidental, exploratory ingestions of these agents seem well tolerated, with no patient developing bleeding complications.

Multicenter Study Controlled Clinical TrialImpact of Personal Protective Equipment on Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Performance: A Controlled Trial.
This study aimed to determine whether personal protective equipment (PPE) results in deterioration in chest compression (CC) quality and greater fatigue for administering health care providers (HCPs). ⋯ During a clinically appropriate 2-minute period, neither CC quality nor self-reported fatigue worsened to a significant degree in providers wearing PPE. Our data suggest that Pediatric Basic Life Support recommendations for CC providers to switch every 2 minutes need not be altered with PPE use.

Multicenter StudyNovel Approach to Emergency Departments' Pediatric Readiness Across a Health System.
A gap analysis of emergency departments' (EDs') pediatric readiness across a health system was performed after the appointment of a service line health system pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) quality director. ⋯ Pediatric emergency care coordinators play an important role in ED readiness to care for pediatric patients. In a large health system, a service line PEM quality director with the support of emergency medicine and pediatrics, a committee with solid frontline ED base, and a diverse array of stakeholders can foster the engagement of all EDs and improve compliance with published guidelines.

Multicenter StudyVideography in Pediatric Emergency Research: Establishing a Multicenter Collaborative and Resuscitation Registry.
High-quality clinical research of resuscitations in a pediatric emergency department is challenging because of the limitations of traditional methods of data collection (chart review, self-report) and the low frequency of cases in a single center. To facilitate valid and reliable research for resuscitations in the pediatric emergency department, investigators from 3 pediatric centers, each with experience completing successful single-center, video-based studies, formed the Videography In Pediatric Emergency Research (VIPER) collaborative. ⋯ Initial simulation-based testing suggests video-based data collection using the VIPER registry is feasible and reliable. Our next step is to assess feasibility and reliability for actual pediatric resuscitations and to complete several prospective, hypothesis-based studies of specific aspects of resuscitative care, including of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, and teamwork and communication.
