Comparative Study
Local infiltration for postsurgical analgesia following total hip arthroplasty: a comparison of liposomal bupivacaine to traditional bupivacaine.
To assess postsurgical clinical and economic outcomes of patients who received local infiltration containing liposomal bupivacaine versus traditional bupivacaine for pain management following total hip arthroplasty (THA). ⋯ Infiltration at the surgical site with liposomal bupivacaine was associated with improved postsurgical outcomes when compared with traditional bupivacaine in patients undergoing THA.

Observational Study
Persistence with rapid-acting insulin and its association with A1C level and severe hypoglycemia among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes.
To examine the persistence with rapid-acting insulin (RAI) and its association with clinical outcomes among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). ⋯ Among elderly T2D patients, persistence with RAI added to basal insulin was associated with improved glycemic control and lower risk of severe hypoglycemia. Despite treatment effectiveness, RAI persistence was poor and might be improved by reducing RAI out-of-pocket costs.

Manifestations of the autosomal recessive disorder lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D) include hepatomegaly, elevated serum liver enzymes, and progressive liver disease. We report an analysis of time to progression from first clinical manifestation to first documentation of hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis, or liver transplantation from an observational study of pediatric and adult patients with LAL-D (clinical trial registration: NCT01528917). ⋯ These findings illustrate the progression of liver damage in LAL-D and the elevated risk for liver transplantation among children and adults with LAL-D.
