To evaluate the effectiveness of vortioxetine in major depressive disorder (MDD) when used as a first-line versus second-line treatment or later. ⋯ In the Asian real-world setting, vortioxetine showed greater improvements in depressive and cognitive symptoms, work functioning, and response and remission rates when used as first-line versus second-line treatment or later. Vortioxetine was well-tolerated irrespective of the study population across Asia.

Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs) are computer-based tools intended to support physicians in clinical decision making. MilleDSS is an illustrative example for the Italian context. It is featured by four domains of GP-software interaction, such as clinical management and follow-up evaluation, prescribing appropriateness and clinical risk, prevention strategies and medical computerized stewardship on scientific update and training. ⋯ The Medical Device Regulation (MDR: (EU) 2017/745) indicates that clinical evidence needs to be provided for any software intended to medical purpose. Clinical research on CDSS effectiveness will be therefore conducted through epidemiological studies. In theory, this generation of evidence would follow the pyramid of evidence as per medications approval but, given the large use and constant update of CDSS for daily clinical practice, attentions should be posed on the most cost-effective study.

To quantify health care resource utilization (HCRU) and costs associated with insomnia treated with commonly prescribed insomnia medications among patients with depression. ⋯ Relative to controls with depression but without sleep disorders, overall, health care costs for adults with D + TI were 2.2-fold higher; costs and HCRU varied by insomnia medication. Further study of the impact of newer insomnia treatments on patient outcomes in depression and comorbid insomnia is warranted.

Personalized medicine (PM), as a rapidly growing research area, provides treatments, practices, and interventions being adapted to an individual patient based on his own risk of disease. This study aims to analyze the productivity of countries, institutions, and authors in this field, to determine the existing research trends worldwide, and to forecast future research activity for specific countries. ⋯ Owing to its both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature, PM bestows researchers' numerous sources to benefit and enables them a field that they can be productive of for the future. Therefore, this field is expected to progress and be the lead area in medicine in the upcoming years.

Although HRQoL tools such as the EQ-5D-3L are significant in determining health status, these measures have not been validated in general populations in Australia. This study aims to psychometrically validate the EQ-5D-3L in a large population sample in Australia for the first time. ⋯ Despite the ceiling effects, the EQ-5D-3L displayed good psychometric properties as an HRQoL measure and discriminated between health states in the general South Australian population. Further research should investigate the psychometric properties of the EQ-5D-5L in South Australia and whether an increased number of response categories can mitigate the observed ceiling effects.
