The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is caused by a new coronavirus family member, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and is linked with many disease manifestations in multiple organ systems on top of pulmonary manifestations. COVID-19 is also accompanied by several cardiovascular pathologies including myocarditis, acute myocardial infarction, stress cardiomyopathy, arterial and venous thromboembolism, pericarditis, and arrhythmias. ⋯ Several case reports have shown the development of an unusual cardiovascular event after receiving SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. The current article aimed to review cardiovascular involvement in the COVID-19 pandemic with respect to clinical features, pathogenesis, long-term effects, and the adverse effects of treatments and vaccines based on the latest evidence.

Gestational diabetes mellitus is a type of glucose intolerance that first manifests itself during pregnancy. A pregnant woman and her unborn child are at an increased risk of pregnancy complications and poor neonatal outcomes. Pregnancy diabetes affects one out of every 200 women. Therefore, this study aims to identify the determinants of gestational diabetes mellitus among pregnant women attending an antenatal care service in Gedeo Zone, Ethiopia. ⋯ Previous adverse pregnancy outcomes were found to be the main predictors of GDM. Women with gestational diabetes mellitus should be followed after delivery in order to monitor hyper-glycemic status.

Review Meta Analysis
Risk factors and pooled incidence of intestinal stoma complications: systematic review and meta-analysis.
The present systematic review aimed to identify, critically assess and summarize which risk factors might determine the onset of ostomy complications, describing a pooled incidence and stratified incidences by each identified risk factor. ⋯ The pooled incidence of stomal complications requires greater attention for its relevant epidemiology. From the clinical point of view, patients with obesity and chronic conditions require more attention to prevent complications, possibly employing accurate educational interventions to enhance proper stoma management.

Aeromonads are gram-negative opportunistic bacteria, mainly found in aquatic environments. Hematologic patients are particularly at risk of Aeromonas soft tissue infections and septicemia, especially during chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. ⋯ In a previous paper we characterized the patient's aberration with cytogenetic and FISH analysis. Here, we provide details regarding the patient's rapidly progressing infection and underline the importance of maintaining high clinical suspicion of Aeromonas infections in acute leukemia. Given the unusually rapid progression of an infection caused by a rare non-resistant pathogen, and after considering data on the implication of metalloproteinase function in immune system regulation, a correlation between risk of severe infection and TAF15-ZNF384 aberrated acute lymphoblastic leukemia cannot be ruled out.

Chronic cough is a common reason for medical consultations and is associated with considerable physical and psychological morbidity. This study investigated healthcare use and cost in chronic cough and assessed its relationship with cough severity, health status, objective cough frequency (CF), and anxiety and depression. ⋯ Healthcare cost associated with chronic cough are largely due to diagnostic investigations and clinic consultations. The predictors of costs were health status (LCQ) and anxiety. Further studies should investigate the optimal management protocols for patients with chronic cough.
