Hypoglycaemia leads to significant morbidity and impacts negatively on quality-of-life, especially in elderly people with increased frailty. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of low interstitial fluid glucose (IFG) in patients with tightly controlled type 2 diabetes (T2D), and to evaluate whether there were differences in burden of low IFG between sulphonylurea and insulin treated groups. ⋯ This study demonstrates that elderly patients with tightly-controlled T2D have a significant number of low sensor glucose events which go by undetected.

This study describes patient characteristics and utilization of recently approved novel acute medication and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) monoclonal antibodies. ⋯ Understanding patient characteristics and treatment utilization patterns among patients prescribed both a CGRP mAb and novel acute medication may provide valuable insight regarding migraine treatment selection for healthcare decision makers.

To obtain a nationally representative annualized estimate of the prevalence of pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardium) in the United States (US) in order to better understand the potential burden on the health care system. ⋯ Despite certain methodologic limitations, our analysis of data from nationally representative sources support that pericarditis is a rare disease affecting substantially fewer than 200,000 persons in the US.

Anemia is a common complication in patients with hemodialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (HDD-CKD). Anemia is principally the result of erythropoietin deficiency, inflammation, and iron deficiency. High molecular weight iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) are routinely administered intravenously to replace iron losses and, although effective, there are lingering concerns about possible safety issues. ⋯ Clinical data also suggest that dialysate FPC may reduce the dose requirements for and use of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents and IONPs in HDD-CKD patients. Safety data from clinical studies and post-marketing surveillance show that FPC is well tolerated and not associated with an increased risk of infection, inflammation, iron overload, or serious hypersensitivity reactions. FPC represents an effective and well-tolerated choice for iron replacement and maintenance of hemoglobin in the long-term management of HDD-CKD patients.

Peptoniphilus indolicus belongs is a gram-positive anaerobic coccus (GPAC), which can cause bacterial vaginitis. However, only a few studies have reported severe infection of P. indolicus. This study presented the first case of severe infection of P. indolicus during pregnancy. It aimed to help to fill the gap in the literature, find out the factors that accelerate infection and discuss the significance of the GPAC test. ⋯ P. indolicus is an opportunistic pathogen in pregnant women. Poor physical conditions and pregnancy may accelerate disease progression and lead to severe inflammation.
