Meta AnalysisThe predictive value of airway occlusion pressure at 100 msec (P0.1) on successful weaning from mechanical ventilation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The predictive value of airway occlusion pressure at 100 milliseconds (P0.1) on weaning outcome has been controversial. We performed a meta-analysis to investigate the predictive value of P0.1 on successful weaning from mechanical ventilation. ⋯ This meta-analysis suggests that P0.1 is a useful tool to predict successful weaning. To determine clinical utility, a large prospective study investigating the sensitivity and specificity of P0.1 on weaning outcomes from mechanical ventilation is warranted.

Meta AnalysisEffectiveness of polymyxin B-immobilized hemoperfusion against sepsis and septic shock: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Polymyxin B-immobilized hemoperfusion (PMX-HP) against sepsis or septic shock. ⋯ Using PMX-HP to treat patients with less severe sepsis can reduce overall mortality and is safe. Treatment efficacy may benefit from the reduction of endotoxin level and the improvement of hemodynamics. More high quality RCTs are required to further evaluate the clinical role of PMX-HP against severe sepsis or septic shock.

Review Meta AnalysisUse of recombinant activated factor VII for the treatment of perioperative bleeding in noncardiac surgery patients without hemophilia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of perioperative use of recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) in noncardiac patients. ⋯ For perioperative hemorrhagic patients, rFVIIa-based hemostatic therapy showed no effect on mortality, ICU or hospital LOS, or the rate of thromboembolic events, although it appears to decrease blood loss and reduce the need for blood product transfusion in a subset of patients.

Meta AnalysisSystolic dysfunction as evaluated by tissue Doppler imaging echocardiography and mortality in septic patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Septic induced cardiomyopathy has a wide spectrum of presentation, being associated with systolic and/or diastolic dysfunction. There is currently no evidence of association between left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction and mortality in septic patients. ⋯ There is no association between mortality and LV systolic function as evaluated by TDI s' wave in septic patients.

Meta AnalysisHypoalbuminemia is associated with increased risk of acute kidney injury in hospitalized patients: A meta-analysis.
Previous systematic review suggested that hypoalbuminemia is associated with increased risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). However, pooled sample size was small, and there was no universal definition for AKI. ⋯ Hypoalbuminemia is associated with AKI in hospitalized patients. However, the effect on mortality is subjected to publication bias.
