Review Meta AnalysisEffects of antiplatelet therapy on the mortality rate of patients with sepsis: A meta-analysis.
Abnormal platelet activation plays an important role in the development of sepsis. The effect of antiplatelet drugs on the outcome of patients with sepsis remains unclear. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the effect of antiplatelet drugs on the prognosis of patients with sepsis. ⋯ Antiplatelet drugs, particularly aspirin, could be used to effectively reduce mortality in patients with sepsis.

Meta AnalysisHigh flow nasal therapy in immunocompromised patients with acute respiratory failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The role of high-flow nasal therapy (HFNT) as compared to conventional oxygen therapy (COT) in immunocompromised patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) with acute respiratory failure (ARF) remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis in order to address this issue. ⋯ We found no benefit of HFNT over COT on mortality in immunocompromised patients with ARF. However, HFNT was associated with a lower intubation rate warranting further research.

Review Meta AnalysisSafety and efficacy of iron therapy on reducing red blood cell transfusion requirements and treating anaemia in critically ill adults: A systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis.
To evaluate the safety (risk of infection) and efficacy (transfusion requirements, changes in haemoglobin (Hb)) of iron therapy in adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients. ⋯ Iron therapy results in a modest increase in Hb. The current evidence is inadequate to exclude an important effect on transfusion requirements or infection.

Review Meta AnalysisNoninvasive ventilation in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Evaluate current recommendation for the use of noninvasive ventilation (Bi-level positive airway pressure- BiPAP modality) in hypoxemic acute respiratory failure, excluding chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. ⋯ NIV showed a significant protective effect for intubation in immunosuppressed patients (cancer and transplants) and in patients with APE/CAP. However, the benefits of NIV for other etiologies are not clear and more trials are needed to prove these effects.

Review Meta AnalysisEffect of adjunctive corticosteroids on clinical outcomes in adult patients with septic shock - a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and trial sequential analysis.
To assess the effect of corticosteroids on clinical outcomes in patients with septic shock. ⋯ Future trials are unlikely to detect a reduction in short-term mortality at a daily doses of 200 mg hydrocortisone. More evidence is required to confirm the beneficial effects of dual corticosteroid therapy.
