Trajectories of quality of life, return to work, psychopathology, and disability in survivors of the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS): A three-year prospective cohort study (DACAPO).
Describe the long-term development of outcomes for survivors of the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). ⋯ Most of recovery in HRQoL and RtW occur during the first 12 months, after which a plateau is reached, indicating a chronification for many patients. Contrary to this, however, psychopathological symptoms remain stable, except for depressive symptoms. [200 words].

Early renal recovery after acute kidney injury in patients on venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: A retrospective study.
The impact of VA-ECMO on early renal recovery (within 7 days after ECMO onset) in patients with pre-ECMO acute kidney injury and cardiogenic shock is unknown. ⋯ Only 43% of patients with severe pre-ECMO AKI had early renal recovery after VA-ECMO initiation.

Critically ill patients: Histopathological evidence of thyroid dysfunction.
Critical illness is characterized by severe biphasic physical and metabolic stress as result of systemic inflammatory response syndrome and/or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and is frequently associated with non-thyroidal illness. Purpose of this study is to better understand the cytomorphological basis of NTI by performing histopathological examinations of thyroid gland on autopsies of patients who died from critical illness. ⋯ Critical illness produces metabolically damaging effects on thyroid gland, which functionally corresponds to a state of low T3 syndrome. These changes are more pronounced in BI and cerebral stroke than in TBI.

Population pharmacokinetics and model-based dosing optimization of teicoplanin in elderly critically ill patients with pneumonia.
To evaluate the population pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of teicoplanin in elderly critically ill patients with pneumonia for optimal dosages. ⋯ Standard teicoplanin dosages for pneumonia may provide inadequate systemic exposures in elderly critically ill patients. High-dose regimens should be considered as empiric therapy or for less susceptible pathogens.

The association between increasing fluid balance, acute kidney injury and mortality in patients with sepsis and septic shock: A retrospective single center audit.
To determine whether a positive fluid balance is associated with AKI and mortality in sepsis and septic shock patients. ⋯ In patients with sepsis and septic shock, a more positive fluid balance is associated with an increased incidence of acute kidney injury and death after correction for possible confounders.
