Multicenter Study Comparative Study[Comparison of the Asthma Control Test (ACT) with lung function, levels of exhaled nitric oxide and control according to the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA)].
The current goal of asthma treatment is to achieve and maintain control. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the ACT (Asthma Control Test) questionnaire and the levels of control according to GINA (Global Initiative for Asthma) to establish the cut-off points for the ACT and evaluate its relationship with lung function and fractionated exhaled nitric oxide level (FeNO). ⋯ The cut-off points would be, for controlled asthma ACT> or =21, partly controlled asthma ACT=19-20 and uncontrolled asthma ACT< or =18. A more complete assessment would require including monitoring operating parameters and FeNO.

Multicenter Study[Use of indwelling pleural catheter in the outpatient management of recurrent malignant pleural effusion].
To analyse the effectiveness and safety of the indwelling pleural catheter in the management of recurrent malignant pleural effusion. ⋯ The use of an indwelling pleural catheter is an effective palliative treatment in the outpatient management for patients suffering malignant pleural effusion. It is also a simple treatment that can be easily applied, does not require hospitalisation and can be easily managed by the patient at home, with a low rate of complications.

Multicenter Study[Inflammation markers in the exhaled air of patients with bronchiectasis unassociated with cystic fibrosis].
The aim of the study was to analyse the relationship between the intensity of the respiratory tract inflammation, expressed by oxidative stress markers, and the severity of the disease in patients with bronchiectasis unassociated with cystic fibrosis. ⋯ In our study, the measurement of inflammation markers in exhaled air is only associated with some parameters of severity in patients with bacterial bronchiectasis.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study[Air pollution and recent symptoms of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic eczema in schoolchildren aged between 6 and 7 years].
The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between air pollutants and the prevalence of recent symptoms of asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic eczema in schoolchildren aged between 6 and 7 years. ⋯ Findings suggest that air pollutants such as SO2 and CO increase the risk of recent symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis in schoolchildren aged between 6 and 7 years in Spain.

Multicenter Study[Noninvasive mechanical ventilation in Valencia, Spain: from theory to practice].
To obtain representative data on the frequency of use and availability of resources for noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) in hospitals (acute respiratory failure) and at home (chronic respiratory failure). ⋯ We observed differences in the type of requirement used, and considerable deficiencies in the availability of human and material resources and support systems. Although NIV is mostly used in hospitals to treat patients with acute respiratory failure, home NIV is also very common and is characterized by greater variability in terms of the number and type of patients. We also observed deficiencies in terms of written protocols for patients with acute and chronic disease.
