Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Use of hyaluronan in the selection of sperm for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI): significant improvement in clinical outcomes--multicenter, double-blinded and randomized controlled trial.
Does the selection of sperm for ICSI based on their ability to bind to hyaluronan improve the clinical pregnancy rates (CPR) (primary end-point), implantation (IR) and pregnancy loss rates (PLR)? ⋯ The study included clinics using different sperm preparation methods, located in different regions of the USA and proceeded in every month of the year. Therefore, the results are widely applicable.

The ENDOCARE questionnaire guides European endometriosis clinics to improve the patient-centeredness of their care.
How patient-centered are two included specialized endometriosis clinics relative to each other and how can they improve the patient-centeredness of their care? ⋯ This work was funded by KU Leuven and European Network of Endometriosis (ENE), supported by the European Commission (Public Health Executive Agency). No competing interests are declared.

No questionnaire is currently available for the presurgical diagnosis of adnexal torsion (AT). Our objective was to develop a predictive model for AT, based on the Self Assessment Questionnaire for Gynecologic Emergencies (SAQ-GE) designed for triaging women with acute pelvic pain. ⋯ The SAQ-GE torsion score may prove useful for screening for AT in patients experiencing acute pelvic pain.

Diagnostic value of serum activin A and follistatin levels in women with peritoneal, ovarian and deep infiltrating endometriosis.
Activin A is a growth factor, produced by the endometrium, whose actions are modulated by the binding protein follistatin. Both proteins are detectable in the peripheral serum and their concentrations may be increased in women with endometriosis. The present study was designed to evaluate whether serum levels of activin A and follistatin are altered, and therefore have a potential diagnostic value, in women with peritoneal, ovarian and deep infiltrating endometriosis. ⋯ The present study demonstrated that serum activin A and follistatin are not significantly altered in peritoneal or deep infiltrating endometriosis and have limited diagnostic accuracy in the diagnosis of ovarian endometrioma.

Maternal body mass index and the risk of fetal and infant death: a cohort study from the North of England.
Early pregnancy obesity (body mass index, BMI, ≥ 30 kg/m(2)) carries significant health implications. This cohort study investigates the association between early pregnancy BMI and the risk of fetal and infant death in pregnancies not affected by congenital anomalies or pre-gestational diabetes. ⋯ Early pregnancy obesity is significantly associated with fetal and infant death, independent of the known relationships with congenital anomalies and maternal pre-gestational diabetes.
